  • Mr. and Mrs. Foy Johnny Surratt of Hillsville announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Shae Surratt, to Daniel Morgan Hill.
    Hill is the son of Danny and Joyce Hill of Galax.

    He is a 2004 graduate of Carroll County High School and is a teacher at Radford High School.
    Surratt is a 2004 graduate of Carroll County High School and is a hair stylist at Unique Full Service Salon in Radford.
    An October wedding is planned at the Pete Dye River Course of Virginia Tech.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Danny K. Shepard of Tazewell announce the engagement of their daughter, Lauren Danielle Shepard, to Van Harris, son of Frances and Grover Harris of Speedwell.
    Shepard graduated from Bluefield College with a bachelor of arts degree. She is employed as a physical therapy assistant at Williams Physical Therapy in Galax.

    Harris received a bachelor of arts degree in teaching from Bluefield College. He is employed with the Grayson County School system.
    An October wedding is planned and the couple will reside in Wytheville.

  • Joseph Edward Adams and Holly Beth Nichols were joined in marriage Aug. 6 by the Rev. Sam Bartlett in a ceremony attended by son Cobey and immediate family.
    The ceremony took place in the rock gazebo overlooking the duck pond on the Virginia Tech campus.

    Adams is the son of Dick and Penny Adams of Galax.
    Nichols is the daughter of Gary and Kathy Nichols of Independence.
    The couple spent their honeymoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

  • Taelynn Isabella Mundy celebrated her first birthday July 2 with a Winnie the Pooh party at Liddle Tykes Child Development Center. Her sisters Hope Gaynor and Timber Mundy helped her celebrate along with many special friends and family members.

    She is the daughter of Tammy L. Liddle and Tim L. Mundy of Woodlawn. Her Maternal grandparents are Brenda Liddle and Emory Bearden of Woodlawn and Charles Liddle of Galax. Her paternal grandparents are Don and Mabelene Beverly of Cana. Her paternal great-grandmother is Ovela Easter of Cana.

  • Anna Carré Watson and Robert Clarke Hunter Jr. were married April 9, 2011, at 6 p.m., at Fourth Presbyterian Church in Greenville, S.C.
    The Rev. Doctor Bruce Meyer officiated the ceremony.  A reception followed at the Poinsett Hotel.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Stephen Watson of Greenville. She is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Neill Macaulay Perrin and Mrs. James Henry Watson and the late Mr. Watson of Greenville.

  • Agnes Marie Lundy Cox will celebrate her 97th birthday Aug. 19.

  • Marella Cheyenne Huff will celebrate her second birthday Aug. 19. A party in her honor will be held Aug. 20 at her grandparent’s home in the Fairview community.

    She is the daughter of Joshua B. and Jennifer D. Huff. Paternal grandparents are Gary and Brenda Huff. Maternal grandparents are John E. and Mary B. Davis. Paternal great-grandparents are Inez Huff and Alma Lee Sizemore and the late Ed Huff and Kyle Sizemore. Maternal great-grandparents are John B. (Bill) and Shirley Davis and the late John W. and Rubye Boyer, all of Galax.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Combs Jr.  of Sugar Grove announced the engagement of their daughter, Sarah Renee, to William Quinton Calfee of Wytheville.

    Combs is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Grover “Joe” and Gaye Pugh of Troutdale and Sherman Gayle Combs Sr. and the late Ora May Combs of Sugar Grove.
    Calfee is the son of Charles B. Calfee and the grandson of William A. and the late Frances Calfee of Wytheville.
    Both are graduates of Wytheville Community College and reside in Wytheville.
