  • Donnie and Linda Alderman celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June with a week-long vacation with their family.

    Their children are Rodney of Galax, Brian and wife Monica of Cleveland, Tenn., and Rhonda and husband Robert of Statesville, N.C. They have two grandchildren, Jared of Charlote, N.C., and Ella Kate of Cleveland.
    The Aldermans are thankful for God’s many blessings.

  • Will Griggs and Ashton Bowers will be married Oct. 18 in Highlands Ranch, Colo., at the Highlands Ranch Mansion.
    Griggs is the son of Laurie C. Griggs of Galax and Charles and Michele Griggs of Penhook. His grandparents are Ruthie R. Griggs and Bill and Bobbie Copeland, all of Hillsville.

    Bowers is the daughter of Rick and Robin Bowers of Highland Ranch, Colo., and the granddaughter of William Taylor of Wingate, N.C.

  • Mr. and Mrs. Edward Buchanan of Hillsville announced the Aug. 3 marriage of their son, Lt. Macon A. Buchanan, to Ashlee Nichole Ley, formerly of Turpin, Okla.

    The ceremony was officiated by the groom’s father, Ed Buchanan, minister of the Church of Christ of Austinville, and was held at Norfolk Church of Christ.
    The bride was given in marriage by her father, Bruce Ley, of Raton, Mass.
    Matron of honor was the bride’s sister, Chelsee Stern of Norfolk. Best man was Lt. Steamboat Buddy Rock of San Diego, Calif.

  • Samantha Autumn Rose celebrated her fifth birthday June 24. Her parents are Tina and Eric Rose of Fries. She has two sisters and one brother, Cheyenne, Trinity and Ryder Rose of Fries.

    Her great-grandparents are Robert Dowling of Fries and the late Ressie Dowling of Fries, the late Hobert and Mollie Hines of Fries and the late Allie and Arlene Osborne of Austinville. Her grandparents are Jimmy and Edna Hines of Fries and the late Connie Dowling of Fries. She has a special friend, Ruby Hill.

  • Michael and Betty Butler announced the engagement of their son, James Michael, to Hannah Elaine McGowan of Johnson City, Tenn.  
    McGowan is the daughter of Jim and Kathryn McGowan. 

    She is the granddaughter of the late George and Gladys Copp and the late Albert McGowan and the late Freida McGowan Martin.
    She is a graduate of Greeneville High School and East Tennessee State University.
    Butler is the grandson of J.D. and Jackie Butler and Alma Wooten and the late Carl Wooten. He is a graduate of Grayson County High School.

  • Wilton and Delores Dolinger will celebrate their 60th anniversary with a reception Aug. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the VFW building, Klondike Road, Independence.

    They have two children, Wilton Curtis Dolinger of Marion and Jennifer Dolinger Snow of Independence.
    They have two grandchildren, Wilton Curtis Dolinger III, of Arlington, Va., and Heather R. Dolinger of Fredricksburg, Va.
    The couple requests no gifts.

  • INDEPENDENCE — River North Correctional Facility is anticipated to provide a significant boost to local businesses and increase employment in Independence and Grayson County when it opens this fall, but another significant way it has already impacted the county is by unifying many area churches and religious groups with a common goal of ministering to inmates.

  • Iris Gardner of Fancy Gap celebrated her 90th birthday with two parties on July 20.

    First, a breakfast at Shoney’s and again at 4 p.m. at Gladesboro Church. The parties were hosted by her children, grandchildren and her siblings. She was born on July 12.

  • Wyatt Hash celebrated his second birthday Aug. 6. He is the son of Eric and Karen Hash.

    His grandparents are Larry and Becky Elliott and Milton and Barbara Hicks.
