  • Duane and Anita Love announce the engagement of their daughter, Scarlett M. Love of Galax, to Matthew P. Hopkins, son of P-Nut and Lisa Hopkins of Chilhowie.

    They met at Wytheville Community College while pursuing a degree in physical therapy assisting.
    The couple plans to marry at Trinity Baptist Church in Galax at 2 p.m. April 26. A reception at Blue Ridge Country Club will follow. Family and friends are invited.

  • Conner Sutherland celebrated his third birthday March 8 at Chuck E. Cheese with his family. He is the son of Matthew and Jessica Sutherland of Independence.

    He has a sister, Halley Sutherland. Maternal grandparents are David Osborne of Fries and the late Connie Osborne. Paternal grandparents are Richard and Brenda Sutherland of Elk Creek. He has two uncles Brandon and Shane Osborne, both of Fries.

    Mays is the daughter of Larry Mays and Dana Woodel of Galax. Shaffner is the son of Steve and Janie Shaffner of Fries.

  • HILLSVILLE — Local non-profit organization “Live for Life” is hosting a day-long music festival for child abuse awareness and suicide prevention called “Live for Life - Don’t Hasten Death” on April 4 at the Grover King VFW Post in Hillsville.
