    A Jan. 18, 2014, wedding is planned at 1 p.m. at Fries Baptist Church in Fries.

  • Blake Anderson Blevins celebrated his second birthday Oct. 24, 2013, with a farm animal birthday party with his family.

    Hayden Thomas Blevins celebrated his fifth birth Dec. 10, 2013, with an Avengers birthday party with his family and friends at Macado’s. They are the children of Jason and Alison Blevins of Galax. Their grandparents are Jim and Brenda Blevins of Ennice, N.C., and Ray and Nonnie Plummer of Troutdale.

  • The Richardson brothers celebrated birthdays in October. Dawson was seven, Luke was four and Lee was two. They are the sons of Leigh Ann and Paul Richardson of Wytheville.

    Their grandparents are David and Cindy Roop of Fries and Vicky Richardson of Galax. Their great-grandparents are Carroll and Peggy Linebery and Bill and Shelby Cox, all of Galax.

  • Eldon and Iris Gardner of Fancy Gap celebrated their 74th anniversary Dec. 23.

  • HILLSVILLE — Those recognizing Sallie Hall for her 38 years with a nutrition program through the Virginia Extension Service served up a heaping helping of fun on Jan. 4.
    Organizers lured Hall to the Carroll Senior Citizens Center for a “roast,” as well as a spaghetti dinner dished out of a row of crockpots.
    Hall took time to greet each of the approximately 50 people in attendance, before opening gifts presented by storyteller Vickie Town and hearing memories by Matthew Miller, an Extension agent who worked with her for about six years.

  • Larry and Elizabeth Myers of Galax announced the engagement of their daughter, Lindsay Erin Myers, to Roger Dale Stone, son of Fred and Linda Stone of Douglasville, Ga.

    Myers is a 2000 graduate of Grayson County High School in Independence. She attended Lee University in Cleveland, Tenn., and received her graduate degree from Argosy University n Nashville, Tenn. She lives and works in Knoxville, Tenn.
    Stone is a graduate of South Cobb High School in Mableton, Ga., and the University of Georgia in Athens. He lives and works in Knoxville.

  • LeShanna Corinne Patton and Michael Tyler Hill were united in marriage June 8, 2013, at the home of the bride’s parents in the Oldtown area of Galax.
    The Rev. Ted Bartlett officiated.
    The bride is the daughter of Gary and Kathy Patton of Galax.

    She is the granddaughter of Roy Lineberry of Galax and the late Dorothy Poe Lineberry and the late Irving Patton and Pauline Norman Patton.

  • Brantley and Carol Payne of Whitetop will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary Jan. 4, 2014. They were married Jan. 4, 1964.

  • Twin County Regional Hospital recently welcomed the first baby of 2014.
    Jaiden Ercely Sauceda, daughter of Jessica Shinault and Roger Sauceda of Galax, was the baby born closest to New Year’s Day, on Jan. 2 at 7:56 a.m. She weighed seven pounds, seven ounces and measured 20 inches long.  

  • HILLSVILLE — When it comes to staying fit, active and healthy in the New Year, the Carroll Wellness Center’s Zumba instructor prefers talking about a “lifestyle change” than a well-meaning, one-time “resolution.”
    When Gretchen Lawson attended her first Zumba class, as a mother-daughter activity through her church, she weighed 220 pounds.
