    The members of the Galax Volunteer Fire Department take their motto to heart.
    “Pride in Our Past, Dedicated to the Future” is emblazoned on signs and trucks, but it’s more than words.
    As for the pride in the past, firefighters speak reverently of those who came before, building the organization from a bucket brigade to a fire company in 1912, after much of the city’s wood buildings were destroyed by fire.

  • Funk, Edwards announce engagement

    Anthony Glenn Edwards and Lindsay Autumn Funk announced their engagement and upcoming wedding.
    The bride-to-be is the daughter of the late Ralph and Linda Funk, granddaughter of Delta Burcham and Verla and Sam Rotten.

    She is a graduate of Carroll County High School and New River Community College.
    The groom is the son of Teresa and the late Glenn Edwards, grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Carlie Combs and the late Mr. and Mrs. William Lee Edwards.

  • Lord's Acre harvest sale is Sept. 29

    The 61st Annual Lord’s Acre Harvest Sale on Saturday will feature home-baked pies and cakes, home-canned goods, fresh-cooked foods, handmade crafts and bushels of fall produce for sale at Felts Park in Galax.
    The event supports local churches, and is sponsored each year by the Carroll-Grayson United Workers for Christ Association.
    The day begins with a worship service at 9:30 a.m., followed by the sale from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    Timber Abrianna Mundy celebrated her fourth birthday on Aug. 20 with a party at Chuck E. Cheese. Her sisters Hope Gaynor and Taelynn Mundy helped her celebrate along with many special friends and family members.

    She is the daughter of Tammy L. Liddle and Tim L. Mundy of Woodlawn. Her maternal grandparents are Brenda Liddle and Emory Bearden of Woodlawn and Charles Liddle of Galax. Her paternal grandparents are Don and Mabelene Beverly of Cana and Wayne Mundy of Cana.

    Brayden Scott Ramey celebrated his third birthday July 23 with a Dukes of Hazzard party with family and friends. He is the son of Brian Ramey and Carri Davis of Fries.

    His grandparents are Paul and Gwen Sawyers, Barry and Teresa Davis and Lena Mae and the late Junior Ramey. Great-grandparents are James Davis, Annie Burcham and Andy and Mamie Sawyers.

  • Jones, Miller engagement announced

    Tommy and Rhonda Jones of Galax announced the engagement of their daughter, Katheryn Regina Jones, to Mark Allen Miller, son of Roger and Sharon Miller of Fries.

    The future bride was graduated from Southwest Virginia Community College with an associate’s degree in applied science as a certified occupational therapy assistant and is employed with the Carroll County Public School System.
