  • Church for sale, any denominations accepted

    HILLSVILLE — There will be no revival for Fellowship Wesleyan Church. Instead, the facility will be sold after the pastor moves to New York.
    After Alan Page came to Hillsville in 2009, he tried to get the word out that the church was still pursuing its mission.
    Many didn’t even know the church continued to hold services. Despite erecting a new cross in front of church on Virginia Street, visible from U.S. 58, people still thought it had been shuttered.

  • Easter play shows 'The Way'

    The Music Ministry of the First Baptist Church of Galax will present its annual Easter musical this weekend, beginning Friday night at 7 p.m. with repeat performances on Saturday and Sunday.
    “The Way” will tell about the life of Jesus Christ through drama, choir and orchestra performances.

    The months of hard work put into the Willing Partners thrift store in Galax can be seen in every corner.
    Clothes on racks are color-coded and sorted by type in one area, while books are arranged neatly on a wall of shelves in another. Electronics are stacked in one section, and an impressive selection of furniture lines the back wall.

  • Ben Tidwell launches musical ministry, releases new CD

    After getting saved in 2010, Ben Tidwell felt moved to raise his voice in a musical ministry.
    Tidwell found the Lord at Full Gospel Bible Mission in Austinville, but he had to work up to the idea of signing.
    “When I got saved I had a good friend tell me I needed to be singing,” Tidwell recalled.
    The friend, who he worked with at Amcor Rigid Plastics in Wytheville, invited Tidwell to sing with him and his wife at Wilderness Road Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wytheville.

  • Hundreds attend Christian Family Fun Day

    HILLSVILLE — People from all over the region gathered at the Hillsville VFW on Saturday to celebrate the first-ever Christian Family Fun Day.
    The event, sponsored by dozens of churches in the Twin Counties and beyond, kicked off with a parade at 10:30 a.m., followed by free food, games and entertainment from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m.
    People smiled from their decorated vehicles while others followed on foot and distributed pamphlets for their respective churches along the parade route.

  • Galax woman's inspiring story included in new book

    Cindy Halley of Galax is sharing her story of hope and inspiration through the book, “The Faces Behind the Pages that Inspire.”
    Halley owns GODpillow in downtown Galax, embroidering words of courage and motivation onto pillows of prayer. GODpillow promotes healing through prayer and meditation.
    Starting in October, Halley and dozens of other women will travel around the country and around the world, leading people on a journey as they tell their inspirational stories.

  • Churches unite for family fun day

    HILLSVILLE  — Around 50 churches hope to welcome more than 1,500 participants to Christian Family Fun Day Sept. 22.
    The majority of activities will take place at the Grover King Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1115 after a 10:30 a.m. kick-off parade on Main Street travels to the post grounds.
