SAN DIEGO — Backyard Green Films, the production company responsible for a documentary on the famous Carroll County Courthouse shootout, has won The Indie Fest Award of Merit, director Rick Bowman says.


“Hillsville 1912: A Shooting in the Court,” about the gun battle between members of the Allen family and court officials that left five dead and seven wounded, premiered this summer at the Rex Theater in Galax before hitting the film festival circuit.

Nearly 75 cast and crew members from First Baptist Church of Galax has been rehearing since September to prepare for its performance of “Repeat the Sounding Joy” on Dec. 3 and 4 at 7 p.m.

The production shares the Christmas story through song by moving from modern day through different eras back to Bethlehem. The play pays tribute to classic Christmas films with songs and scenes from “A Christmas Carol” to “It’s a Wonderful Life,” with a full orchestra, drama and high-definition multimedia.
