  • She's two

    Paisley Brooke Snider turned two Feb. 1. She celebrated with a Dora the Explorer party at the Carroll County Public Library with family and friends. Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider.

    She has two older sisters, Paisley and Blair Snider. Her grandparents are Danny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Her great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and Freida Deskins of Hillsville. Her special aunts are Holly Choate and Gina Bigham.

  • Turns 94

    Philip Smith Porter celebrated his 94th birthday with family at his home on Allen Lane.

    He and his wife, Pauline Dickens Porter, have been married 70 years.

  • He's two

    Jacob Matthew Beasley celebrated his second birthday with a Spongebob party at his grandmother’s house on April 4.

    He is the son of Andrew and Ashley Beasley. His grandparents are Becky Beasley, Tim Beasley and Beth and William Richardson, all of Hillsville.

  • Springer, Webb engagement announced

    Mr. and Mrs. Victor Webb of Laurel Fork and Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Springer of Vicenza, Italy, announced the upcoming wedding of Heather Webb and Jesse Springer.

    Heather Webb is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Banks of Reidsville, N.C., and the late Forest and Helen Webb of Laurel Fork.
    She received a bachelor’s degree in humanities and fine arts from the University of Wyoming and is pursuing a master’s degree in public administration from the university.

  • Strickland, Marshall to marry

    Ashley M. Strickland and Taylor W. Marshall recently announced their engagement.
    Strickland is the daughter of Jimmy and Denise Strickland of Galax.
    She is a graduate of Carroll County High School and Bluefield College. She is employed by Patrick County Public Schools in Critz, as a sixth/seventh grade health and physical education teacher.
    Marshall is the son of Timmy and Sherry Marshall of Mechanicsville.

    He is a graduate of Lee-Davis High School and plans to graduate from Bluefield College later this year in sports medicine.

    Landon Gray Smith turned 1 on March 3. He celebrated with a baby Mickey-themed party with family and friends. 

    Landon is the son of Christopher and DeAnn Smith of Hillsville. His grandparents are Dennis and Debbie Frost of Galax, and James and Bonnie Smith of Hillsville.

  • Hamby, Love to be married

    Edwin and Lois Love of Galax announce the engagement of their son, Kevin Shayne Love, to Darlene Marie Hamby, the daughter of Sonya and Terry Hamby of Elkins, W.Va.

    A March 23 wedding is planned at Trinity Baptist Church at noon.
    Family and friends are invited.

    Kasen Lane Galyean celebrated his sixth birthday Jan. 9. He celebrated with a motorcross party at Blue Ridge Lanes with family and friends. He is the son of Donnie and Angie Galyean of Baywood.

    He is the grandson of Nelson and Linda Galyean of Baywood, Jimmy and Cathy Jones of Galax and Dennis and Janie Cox of Cox’s Chapel. He has two sisters, Hailee Anders and Kristin Galyean.

    Hunter James Lineberry of Hillsville celebrated his first birthday Feb. 13 with a Mickey Mouse themed party.

    His parents are Mark and Adair Lineberry. His grandparents are Darrell and Ramona Surface, Terry and Susie Lineberry and Pat Shumate.

    Riley Preston Mays celebrated his fourth birthday Feb. 8 with a party at his home with family and friends.

    He is the son of Scott and Priscilla Mays. His maternal grandparents are Gordon Bowman and Donnie and Janie Turner. Paternal grandparents are Bobby and Wanda Cothren Mays.
