  • Moores celebrate 50th anniversary

    Rebecca Ruth Bond and William Peary Moore celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 28.
    They were married on July 28, 1962, at the Alleghany Courthouse in Sparta, N.C., by Justice of the Peace Floyd T. Miller.

    Attending their wedding were their mothers, Peggy Bond and Margaret Moore and friend, Thelma. They later spent their honeymoon at “Granny” Mary Emily Tate’s house in Eagle Bottom in Fries and began their 50 years of marriage together.

  • Ward's three

    Braeden Hunter Ward turned three years old on June 26. He celebrated with an outer space cake and a party at his home. He is the son of Kris and Mary Lynne Ward of Independence. He also has a little brother, Levi.
    His grandparents are Harry Cox, Bo and Susan Moxley and Harvey and Jill Ward. His great-grandparents are Agnes Cox, Mary Jane Hollingsworth, Odell Moxley, Danna Ward and Lacy and Dreama Bowman.

    Cecil and Judy Horton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 2.

    They have two children, Gary Grantand Michelle Ann Shaffner. Also, they have seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

  • Tornow, Bays marry

    David and Susi Tornow of Galax announce the marriage of their daughter, Katherine Valler, to Dustin Gene Bays, son of Donnie and Nancy Bays of Weber City.

    The bride was graduated from North Carolina State University with a bachelor of arts degree and is pursuing a master’s degree in social work.
    She is employed as a mental health clinician at Blue Ridge Behavioral Healthcare.
    The groom received a bachelor of science degree from Emory & Henry College.
    He is employed as director of internal audit at the Bank of Botetourt.

    Joseph Coltin Mays celebrated his fourth birthday May 19. He is the son of Larry Mays of Galax and Dawn Newman of Woodlawn.

    His grandparents are Bobby and Wanda Mays of Galax and Dylas and Faye Newman. His sisters are Holly and Jessica and brothers are Jarrid, Jackson and Jameson.

  • Eversole, Jackson to marry

    Mr. and Mrs. Richard Eversole of Fort Chiswell announced the engagement of their daughter, Jessica Kaitlin, to Derrick Daniel Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Jackson, of Fries.

    Eversole is a graduate of Roanoke College and is pursuing a master’s degree through Liberty University.
    She is the granddaughter of James and Norma Workman of Austinville and William and Earline Eversole of Fort Chiswell. She is the great-granddaughter of Willie Absher of Fort Chiswell.

  • Kirbys celebrate anniversary

    Wanda (Boyles) and Fred Kirby of Fries will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary today, June 29.
    They were married June 29, 1957, at Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church, the church they still attend. The late Rev. Charles Manuel, Sr., was officiating minister.
    They have two sons, Barry Kirby of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tim Kirby of Fries.
