  • She's two

    Cassidy “Cassie” Lynne Marshall turned age 2 on July 23. Her birthday was celebrated with a cookout at the river. She is the daughter of Joseph and Chrissy Marshall.

    She is the little sister of Isabella Marshall. Grandparents are Randy and Kim Bell and Dennis and Opie Marshall. Her great-grandparents are M.C. and Irene Bell, the Late Verna Liddle , O’Neal and O’Needa Terry, and the late Virgil and Patty Marshall.

  • Taylor, MacInnis to marry

    Ronnie and Karen Taylor of Fries announce the engagement of their daughter, April Nicole Taylor, to Ian David MacInnis, son of Bran and Kim MacInnis of Christiansburg.

    Taylor is a graduate of Radford University and is employed by Brown, Edwards & Co. CPAs.
    MacInnis is a graduate of Radford University and is employed at the NRV Regional Jail.
    A December wedding is planned.  

  • Viers, Quesenberry united in marriage

    Brandon Quesenberry and Nicole Viers were married Nov. 17, 2012, at Blacksburg Baptist church.
    The reception was held at Lane Stadium’s south end zone section at Virginia Tech.

    Quesenberry is the son of Don and Cheryl Quesenberry of Hillsville. His grandparents are Clyde Lineberry of Hillsville and Darlene Quesenberry of Sylvatus.
    Viers is the daughter of Josh and Dreama Viers of Abingdon.
    The couple took a honeymoon cruise to the Western Caribbean.

  • Smiths celebrate 50th anniversary

    Kyle (Snalie) and Phyllis Robinson Smith celebrated their 50th anniversary July 5.

    They have one son, Kyle Dean, and fiancée, Mandy Johnson.

  • Roark, Shockley marry

    Mason Keith Shockley and Nichole Leigh Roark of Hillsville were united in marriage June 22.

    The groom is the son of Marissa Lineberry of Woodlawn and John Shockley of Hillsville.
    The bride is the daughter of Amy and Stephen Kimber of Sparta, N.C.
    Pastor Michael Shockley of Hillsville performed the ceremony.

  • He's five

    Joseph Mays celebrated his 5th birthday May 19. He is the son of Larry Mays of Galax and Dawn Newman of Woodlawn.

    Grandparents are Bobby and Wanda Mays of Galax and Faye Newman of Woodlawn. His brothers are Jarrid, Jackson, and Jameson. His sisters are Holly and Jessica.

  • She's one

    Aurora Sky Gregory turned one on April 4. She celebrated with family and friends at home, with a pink and zebra print first birthday themed party.

    She is the daughter of Jimmie and Whitney Gregory and her sister is Madalyn. Grandparents are William and Vergie Lundy, Eddie and Brenda Ward all of Independence, and John and Frances Pierce of Fries.

  • Richardson, Spurlin to marry

    Mike and Anita Spurlin announced the engagement of their daughter, Amanda Michelle Spurlin, to Robert Gayle Richardson, son of Stan and Nona Richardson of Rugby.
    The future bride is employed by Carroll County Public Schools.  The future groom is employed by the Virginia Department of Transportation in the Volney area.

    The wedding ceremony will be conducted by the Rev. Dennis Eller on June 22 at Longview United Methodist Church in Baywood.
    The honeymoon will be in Pennsylvania, and the couple will reside in Galax.

  • Durnovich, Ventresca engagement announced

    Mr. and Mrs. David Wayne Durnovich of Independence announced the engagement of their daughter, Anna Bryant Durnovich, to Matthew Joseph Ventresca, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Anthony Ventresca, of New Hope, Pa.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Wheeler Parsons, of Galax, and John Michael Durnovich and the late Janice Durnovich of Abingdon.
    Anna is a graduate of Grayson County High School and the College of Charleston. She is employed by NAI Geis Realty Group in Philadelphia, Pa.

  • Poole, Sapp marry

    Heather Lynn Poole of Galax and Joseph Eric Sapp of Fries were united in marriage Feb. 16, 2013, by the Rev. Andy Edmonds and the Rev. John Williams at Gospel Chapel in Galax with family and friends.

    The bride is the daughter of Elvis and Rhonda Poole of Galax and the granddaughter of William “Bill” Spencer.
    She graduated from Carroll County High School. She works at Bojangles.
    The bridegroom is the son of Mary Sharlene Sapp of Fries.
