  • Nicolescu‑Waggonner, Lazo exchange vows

    Isabel Cristina Nicolescu‑Waggonner of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Bucharest, Romania, and James Lazo of Los Angeles, Calif., were united in marriage Sept. 19, 2015, at Stonefarm in Elk Creek.
    Robert Lazo, brother of the groom, officiated.
    A reception was held on the lawn of the farm.

  • Griggs, Silcox announce engagement

    Lauren Griggs and Benjamin Silcox, along with their families, announce their engagement.
    Lauren is the daughter of Laurie and Roger Porter of Galax and Charles and Michelle Griggs of New Mexico.

    Her grandparents are Bill and Bobbie Copeland of Hillsville, and Ruthie Griggs, also of Hillsville.
    Benjamin is the son of Mary and Chad Paderick of Troutville and the late Benjamin Webb Silcox of Troutville.

    Lelia C. Poe celebrated her 98th birthday with a party at Waddell Nusing Home Aug. 16 with her family.

    Special guest was her son, Bobby Poe from Edgewater, Md.

    Braeden Hunter Ward turned six years old on June 26. He celebrated with a monster truck party at Grayson County Pool.

    He is the son of Kris and Mary Lynne Ward and has two younger brothers, Levi and Luke. His grandparents are Harry Cox, Bo and Susan Moxley and Harvey and Jill Ward. His great-grandparents are Mary Jane Hollingsworth, Odell Moxley, Danna Ward and Lacy and Dreama Bowman.

    Nolan Spurlin celebrated his third birthday Aug. 8 and his brother Luke Spurlin celebrated his first birthday on Aug. 29.

    They celebrated with family. Nolan and Luke are sons of Jason Spurlin and Jill Cockerham. Their grandparents are Danny and Carolyn Cockerham and Mike and Anita Spurlin. Great-grandparents are Rubye Cockerham and Louise Diamond.
