  • Stesen, Hanks to be married

    Ashley Renee Stesen and Joshua Dane Hanks of Galax announced their engagement and upcoming marriage later this year.

    Stesen is the youngest daughter of Deanna Carico Burgess and Lawrence Burgess of Galax. She is the granddaughter of Donna Cooley Carico and Danny Lee Carico of Galax. She is the great-granddaughter of the late H.G. and Nona Fae Cooley and Berlie and Elsie Faye Carico.
    Hanks is the son of Wayne and Sheila Hanks of Hillsville.

    Jonas Lynn Stockner turned 2 on April 28. He celebrated with a Paw Patrol party at Galax Roller Land with family and friends.

    Jonas is the son of Zeth and Ashley Stockner.  His grandparents are Tommy and Cherie Stockner and Junior and Tammey Osborne. His big brother is Jaxson Stockner.

    Rubye Cockerham of Galax, celebrated her 95th birthday April 1, 2016, with her family at Porky’s Family Restaurant.

    She was married to the late Milo Cockerham for 61 years and they had four children, Danny, Jimmy, Randy and Susan.
    She has 11 grandchildren living and one deceased. She also has two great-grandsons.

    The upcoming marriage of Rachel Preston and Joshua Nelson was recently announced by Gregory and Rebecca Nelson of Baywood, and Byrd and Suzanne Preston of Abingdon.

    Rachel Preston was graduated from Abingdon High School in 2006 and Emory & Henry College in 2010. She is a recruiting coordinator at SpaceX’s Rocket Development Facility in McGregor, Texas.
