• Sanderses marry

    Jeff and Brooke Sanders exchanged nuptials at the Highlands Dragon Ridge Country Club in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve 2010.

    The bride was escorted by her father and stepfather, and wore an ivory mermaid-cut Kenneth Poole gown with hand-embroidered tulle covered in Swarovski crystals with a cathedral length veil. Her bouquet was made of fresh black magic roses, purple vanda orchids and white calla lilies.
    The groom wore an ivory Mario tuxedo.
    Pastor Frank Nevarez of Cottonwood, Ariz., officiated. A quartet performed during the ceremony.

  • Hodge, Roberts marry

    Megan Faith Hodge and William Patrick Roberts were joined in marriage at Carsonville Full Gospel Church in Grayson County on July 16, 2011. Pastor Roy Junior Bentley officiated.
    A reception followed at the New River Wildlife Club.

    The bride is the daughter of Roy and the late Shirley Hodge of Galax. Her grandmother is Marie Newman of Galax.
    The groom is the son of Allen and Pam Roberts of Grayson County and the late Michelle Roberts.

  • Burton-Hanks marry

    Melissa Lenee Burton of Pasadena, Calif., and Thomas Lane Hanks of Baywood were united in marriage on Aug. 28, 2011, at 7:15 p.m. at Sunset Gardens in Las Vegas, Nev.
    The bride is the daughter of John and Kendall Trazzo of Las Vegas.

    The groom is the son of Blake Hanks of Baywood and Aletta Hanks of Baywood. His grandparents are Billy and Bev Hanks of Baywood, Tom and Rena Galyean of Galax and Jean Harvey of Galax.

  • Halseys celebrate anniversary

    Loye and Wylda Halsey celebrated 65 years of marriage Sept. 7.

    They were married in Independence in the parking lot of The Methodist Church by Preacher Carly McKnight.
    They were sitting in a jeep and the preacher stood by the jeep.

  • Turns one

    Spencer Brian Isom celebrated his first birthday Aug. 2. He is the son of Chris and Angela Isom of Independence and he has a sister, Shelby.

    He is the grandson of Charles and Glenda Ward of Independence and Harold and Barbara Isom of Galax. He is the great-grandson of Clarice Ward, also of Independence. He celebrated his birthday with a Baby-Farm animal themed party with family and friends.

    Amanda Grace Huff celebrated her seventh birthday on July 20 with family and friends. She is the daughter of Lance and Susanne Huff of Knoxville, Tenn.

    Her grandparents are Jack and Shelby Huff of Galax and Patsy and the late Paul Weeks of Fairlawn. She has a younger sister, Sydney.

    Christian Lee Bond celebrated his sixth birthday with a Bakugan party with family and friends on July 27. His grandparents are Ronnie and Denise Bond of Fancy Gap, Johnny and Michelle Minton of Richlands and Dale Matney of Dugspur. His father is Chanson Bond of Fancy Gap and his mother is Jade Matney of Richlands.

    Timber Abrianna Mundy celebrated her third birthday on Aug. 20 with a Scooby Doo party at Liddle Tykes Child Development Center. Her sisters Hope Gaynor and Taelynn Mundy helped her celebrate along with many special friends and family members.

    She is the daughter of Tammy L. Liddle and Tim L. Mundy of Woodlawn. Her maternal grandparents are Brenda Liddle and Emory Bearden of Woodlawn and Charles Liddle of Galax. Her paternal grandparents are Don and Mabelene Beverly of Cana. Her paternal great-grandmother is Ovela Easter of Cana.

  • Payne, Dalton to be married

    Mr. and Mrs. Erickson of Bedford announce the engagement of their 
daughter Jennifer L. Payne to Brad A. Dalton, son Mr. and Mrs. 
Dalton of Dugspur.

    An Oct. 20 wedding is planned at 3 p.m. A reception will be held Oct. 23.
    Payne is a graduate of Liberty University and works at Galax 
Elementary School. Dalton is a supervisor for Webb 
Particle Board.

  • Andrews, Shaffer united in marriage

    Harvey Ray Shaffer and Renae Fleming Andrews were married July 28, 2011 in Mount Airy, N.C.

    The couple said their vows at The Sanctuary Church. The Rev. Glenn Delaney officiated.
    The couple is planning a honeymoon trip to the Bahamas and plan to reside in Lowgap, N.C.
