  • Celebrate birthdays

    Kaylee Danielle Clontz turned three on Jan. 3. She is the daughter of Danielle Clontz of Wytheville.
    Krissy Rebecca Clontz turned four Dec. 29. She is the daughter of Eric Clontz of Fries.

    Both celebrated Jan. 16 with a Tinkerbell party at the Wytheville Community Center with family and friends.
    Their grandparents are Tim and Rebecca Clontz of Fries. Great-grandparents are Ileen and the late Boyd Trimble of Fries and the late James and Nancy Clontz of Galax.

  • Jackson turns 100

    Hazel Louise Jackson observed her 100th birthday anniversary on Feb. 6 in the main dining hall of Wheatland Assisted Living in Hillsville at 3 p.m.
    She was born Feb. 6, 1911 in Galax, and was the fourth of seven girls born to Joel and Addie Hawkins.
    She was graduated from Galax High School in 1929, the year of the Great Depression.

    Jackson’s father was a blacksmith and a mason who laid brick on many of the buildings built in the early 1900s in Galax.

  • Gardner-Hash marry

    Carolyn Elizabeth Gardner and Philip Michael Hash were married July 17, 2010.
    Gardner is the daughter of Reginald and Jan Gardner.

    She received a bachelor’s degree in English literature from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, and a master’s degree in British literature from Radford University.
    She is employed by Grayson County schools as a secondary English teacher.
    Hash is the son of Mike and Deanna Hash.
    He received a bachelor’s degree from Roanoke College in environmental science.

  • Higginses to celebrate 60th anniversary Feb. 2

    Robert Dean and Norma Higgins will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary Feb. 2.

    Their three children and spouses are Danny and Donna Higgins, Tony Higgins and Jeanne and Steve Franks.

  • Turns four

    Kasen Lane Galyean turned four on Jan. 9. He celebrated with a bull riding party at his home with family and friends. He is the son of Donnie and Angie Galyean of Baywood.

    He is the grandson of Nelson and Linda Galyean, Jimmy and Cathy Jones and Dennis and Janie Cox. He is the great-grandson of Chuck and Mitzi Galyean and Naoma Davis. He has two sisters, Hailee Anders and Kristin Galyean.

  • She's two

    Isabella Joe Marshall celebrated her second birthday Jan. 6 with a cat themed pool party at the Galax Rec Center with family and friends. She is the daughter of Joseph and Chrissy Marshall of Galax.

    Her grandparents are Randy and Kim Bell of Galax and Dennis and Opie Marshall of Ararat.
     

  • Neals celebrate 60th anniversary

    Richard and Frances Felts Neal celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Jan. 2 with a reaffirmation ceremony at the Blue Ridge Missionary Baptist Church on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They were married on Dec. 27, 1950.

    Attending the Jan. 2 ceremony were their children and spouses, Susanna and Ray Dyer, Melanie and Chris Crabtree, and Linda Neal. Also attending were grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and other family members and friends.

  • He's three

    Jacob "Jake" Burcham celebrated his third birthday Dec. 29, 2010. He celebrated with a Mickey Mouse party at his home with family and friends.

    He is the son of Donald and Machelle Burcham. He has an older sister, Krista. He is the grandson of Opal Wilson and the late George Wilson and Shirley Burcham and the late Kenneth Burcham.

  • He's two

    Hayden Thomas Blevins celebrated his second birthday Dec. 10 with a Wow! Wow! Wubbzy! Party at Macado’s Restaurant with his family. He is the son of Jason and Alison Blevins of Ennice, N.C.

    His grandparents are Jim and Brenda Blevins of Ennice. N.C., and Ray and Nonnie Plummer of Troutdale.
