  • Bailey, Burris marry

    Chase Allen Burris and Courtney Marie Bailey were united in marriage March 19 at Jerusalem Church in Elk Creek.
    The Rev. Pete J. Dunker officiated at the 4 p.m. ceremony.

    Burris is the son of Rick Burris and Leisa Unrue, both from Fries.
    Bailey is the daughter of Ron and Cindy Bailey of Baywood.
    The couple lives in Carroll County.

  • Morrison, Thompson to be married

    Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy A. Morrison of Galax announce the engagement of their daughter, Joy, to Charles Thompson.
    Her grandparents are the late Harry and Maxine Green of Galax and the late A.J. and Mercedes Morrison of Freeport, Fla.

    Thompson was raised by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Baker of Magma, Utah.
    Morrison is a theatre major at Utah Valley University and is employed at Dialogue Marketing.
    Thompson is an education major at Utah Valley University and is a self-employed computer technician.

  • Gauldin, Phipps to marry

    Rick and Carla Gauldin of Sparta, N.C., announced the engagement of their daughter, Kayla Michelle Gauldin, to Dustin Lane Phipps, son of Lane and Beth Phipps of Mouth of Wilson.
    Gauldin is a 2006 graduate of Alleghany High School and a 2010 graduate of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte, where she earned a bachelor of arts degree in elementary education and a minor in communications.

    Phipps is a 2006 graduate of Grayson County High School and a 2010 graduate of Virginia Tech where he earned a bachelor of science degree in dairy science.

    Dakota Lee Walls celebrated his first birthday at his home with family and friends on Jan. 30. He is the son of Eddie and Kristin Walls.

    His grandparents are Lynn and Scarlett Fender and Linda Walls.

  • Turns two

    Riley Grace Anders celebrated her second birthday with a Chuggington party at Rockin Robins Daycare with family and friends. Her parents are Tiffany Jones of Elk Creek and Justin Anders of Rugby.

    Her grandparents are Jimmy and Michele Jones of Independence and John and Leona Anders of Rugby. Her great-grandmother is Virginia Ruth Sutherland of Fries.

  • She's seven

    Jaelyn McKensi Bell celebrated her seventh birthday Feb. 24 with family and friends at a pool party. She is the daughter of Brent Bell and Amanda Bell.

    She is the granddaughter of Randy and Kim Bell, Gary Elliott and Judy Elliott. Her great-grandparents are M.C. and Irene Bell and Billie Johnson.

  • Krejci, Waller engagement announced

    Mr. and Mrs. Steve Krejci of Woodlawn announced the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Elizabeth, to Andrew Seth Waller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Waller of Mount Airy, N.C.
    A June wedding is planned.

    Krejci is a 2010 graduate of Carroll County High School and is a student at Wytheville Community College while being employed at Subway.
    Waller is a 2010 graduate of Mount Airy High School and is enlisted in the U.S. Army.

  • Turns 80

    An 80th birthday party was given for John LaGrasse of Woodlawn at the West Galax United Methodist Church fellowship room by his wife Pat and sons, Andrew, Matthew and David of Long Island, N.Y.

  • Ogle, McGuire announce engagement

    Jared Christopher Ogle and Tammy Crowder McGuire announced their engagement.
    Ogle is the son of Donnie and Janet Ogle and the grandson of the late Elmo and Mary Jane Ogle, Ruth Aldred and the late Paul Aldred.

    McGuire is the daughter of Kathy and Frank Delp and the late Dana Crowder. She is the granddaughter of Harold and Geneva Funk and the late Junior Cornett, Robert and Shelby McLean and the late Melvin Crowder.
    A spring wedding is planned.

  • Hanks, Stricker to marry

    Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hanks of Williamsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth, to Jeffrey Stricker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stricker, formerly of Williamsburg.
    Hanks is the granddaughter of the late Rufus and Izetta Crowder and the late Edgar and Elizabeth Hanks, all of Carroll County.

    Stricker is the grandson of Irene Hiatt and the late Samuel Hiatt, also of Carroll County.
    Both Hanks and Stricker are 1999 graduates of Jamestown High School.
