  • Krejci, Waller engagement announced

    Mr. and Mrs. Steve Krejci of Woodlawn announced the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Elizabeth, to Andrew Seth Waller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Waller of Mount Airy, N.C.
    A June wedding is planned.

    Krejci is a 2010 graduate of Carroll County High School and is a student at Wytheville Community College while being employed at Subway.
    Waller is a 2010 graduate of Mount Airy High School and is enlisted in the U.S. Army.

  • Turns 80

    An 80th birthday party was given for John LaGrasse of Woodlawn at the West Galax United Methodist Church fellowship room by his wife Pat and sons, Andrew, Matthew and David of Long Island, N.Y.

  • Ogle, McGuire announce engagement

    Jared Christopher Ogle and Tammy Crowder McGuire announced their engagement.
    Ogle is the son of Donnie and Janet Ogle and the grandson of the late Elmo and Mary Jane Ogle, Ruth Aldred and the late Paul Aldred.

    McGuire is the daughter of Kathy and Frank Delp and the late Dana Crowder. She is the granddaughter of Harold and Geneva Funk and the late Junior Cornett, Robert and Shelby McLean and the late Melvin Crowder.
    A spring wedding is planned.

  • Hanks, Stricker to marry

    Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Hanks of Williamsburg announce the engagement of their daughter, Elizabeth, to Jeffrey Stricker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Stricker, formerly of Williamsburg.
    Hanks is the granddaughter of the late Rufus and Izetta Crowder and the late Edgar and Elizabeth Hanks, all of Carroll County.

    Stricker is the grandson of Irene Hiatt and the late Samuel Hiatt, also of Carroll County.
    Both Hanks and Stricker are 1999 graduates of Jamestown High School.

  • Byrds celebrate 50th wedding anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. John Byrd recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
    He is a native of Baywood and was graduated from Galax High School in 1951. Lorena Byrd is a native of Sheldon, Iowa.

    They met while students at Milligan College, Tenn., and were married in Paris, France, where he was stationed with the U.S. Army.
    John Byrd taught at Galax High School 1958-1966. Lorena held temporary teaching positions at Fries High School, Independence High School, Oakland Elementary, and Galax High.

  • Bond, Jones marry

    Jessica LeAnn Bond of Fries and Ethan Ray Jones of Readyville, Tenn., were united in marriage Sept. 17, 2010, in at outdoor wedding in the Providence community.
    Brother Tim Watts officiated the double-ring ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Terry Bond of Fries. She is the granddaughter of Billy and Francis Carico and Wayne Bond of Fries and Mary Bond of Woodlawn.
    The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Craig Jones and the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Jones and Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Cricket )Bryson, all of Readyville, Tenn.

  • Nelson, Campbell to marry

    Ricky and Becky Nelson of Independence announced the engagement of their daughter, Carrie Rebecca to Eric Campbell, son of Clifton and Sonja Campbell of Unicoi, Tenn.
    Nelson is a 2007 graduate of Grayson County High School and will graduate May 7 with a bachelor of science degree in nursing from King College, Bristol, Tenn.

    Coleson Creed Burchett celebrated his first birthday Feb. 25 with a Sponge Bob party with family and friends.

    He is the son of Tammy Burchett and grandson of Eva Burchett. His big sisters are Eden, Alicia and Kelsey.

  • Turns two

    Riley Preston Mays celebrated his second birthday Feb. 8 with family and friends. He is the son of Scott and Priscilla Mays.

    His maternal grandparents are Janie and Donnie Turner and Gordon Bowman. Paternal grandparents are Bob and Wanda Cothren Mays. His siblings are Brittany, Zack, Austin, Cameron and Dylan.

  • Hunter, Watson to marry

    Mr. and Mrs. James Stephen Watson announced the engagement of their daughter, Anna Carr’e Watson, to Robert Clarke Hunter Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Clarke Hunter of Tazewell.
    Watson is a graduate of the University of Georgia and the University of Richmond School of Law. She is a lawyer with Brown Greer PLC in Richmond.

    Hunter is a graduate of Washington and Lee University in Lexington and the University of Richmond School of Law and School of Business.
