• Eversole, Jackson to marry

    Mr. and Mrs. Richard Eversole of Fort Chiswell announced the engagement of their daughter, Jessica Kaitlin, to Derrick Daniel Jackson, son of Mr. and Mrs. M.D. Jackson, of Fries.

    Eversole is a graduate of Roanoke College and is pursuing a master’s degree through Liberty University.
    She is the granddaughter of James and Norma Workman of Austinville and William and Earline Eversole of Fort Chiswell. She is the great-granddaughter of Willie Absher of Fort Chiswell.

  • Kirbys celebrate anniversary

    Wanda (Boyles) and Fred Kirby of Fries will celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary today, June 29.
    They were married June 29, 1957, at Fries Pentecostal Holiness Church, the church they still attend. The late Rev. Charles Manuel, Sr., was officiating minister.
    They have two sons, Barry Kirby of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Tim Kirby of Fries.

  • Sotile, Hancock to marry

    Concetta Nicole Sotile and Joshua Lee Hancock announced their engagement and upcoming June 16 wedding at Galax Pentecostal Holiness Church.
    Sotile is a 2009 graduate of Carroll County High School. She attended Wytheville Community College and plans to start at Bluefield College this fall.

    She is the daughter of Debra Dalton of Hillsville and Greg Sotile of Colorado Springs, Colo.
    Hancock is a 2007 graduate of New Life Christian Academy and 2012 graduate of Wytheville Community College.

  • Jones, Sult engagement announced

    Mike and Shirley Jones of Rural Retreat announce the engagement of their daughter Jessica Lauren to Robert Noah Sult, the son of Larry and Susan Sult of Fort Chiswell.

    A September wedding is planned at West Wind Farm.

  • Devines celebrate 65th anniversary

    John (Jack) F. Devine and Wanda celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary March 31 with family and friends at Hillcrest Baptist Church fellowship hall.

    The event was given by their children: daughters, Sandy Cox of Galax and Barbara (Bobbie) and Jerry Fridley of Galax; and son, Jack and Alice Devine of Independence.
    They have seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
    They thanked all who helped celebrate and who sent cards.

  • Holderfield, Edmonds to be married

    Jeff and Patti Holderfield of Galax, along with Mike and Becky Edmonds of Dugspur, announced the engagement of Laura Holderfield and Ray Edmonds.

    Holderfield is a 2008 graduate of Carroll County High School and a 2011 graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in marketing management.
    She is employed at Samaritan’s Purse International Relief in Boone, N.C., as a marketing metrics analyst. 
    Holderfield is the granddaughter of Joe and Mary Alice Holderfield of Galax, and Tom and Dee Lineberry of Pipers Gap.

    Gary and Kathy Patton of Galax announced the engagement of their daughter, LeShanna Corinne Patton, to Michael Tyler Hill, son of Ricky and Anna Hill of Galax.

    The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Roy B. Lineberry and the late Dorothy Poe Lineberry of Galax. Her paternal grandparents include the late Irving Patton and the late Pauline Norman Patton of Galax.
    The bride-elect graduated from Galax High School. She earned a cosmetology diploma from Surry Community College and is employed at A New You Salon and Spa.
