  • Carico, Ayers marry

    Candace Brook Carico and Seth Joseph Ayers were joined in holy matrimony at Beech Grove Baptist Church on July 25, 2010.

    The bride is the daughter of Wanda and Jeff Vaught and Eddie and Lisa Carico. She is the granddaughter of Clayton and Velin Carico and Don and Doris Cox.
    The groom is the son of Brandon Ayers and Marcia and Eric Garrison. He is the grandson of Debbie and Shirley Ayers and Hascle and JoAnn Cheeks. He is the great-grandson of Rufus Ayers, Robert Cheeks, Evelyn Cox and Elton and Kathryn Horton.
    Pastor Mark Carico officiated.

  • Bunn turns 90

    In celebration of the 90th birthday of Annabelle Bunn, her daughter Kathy Bunn Murray hosted a birthday party July 10 for 96 guests at Galax First Assembly of God Church. She is from a family of 10 children and had 13 children of her own over a span of 25 years.

    She has 36 grandchildren, 6 step-grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren, and 12 step-great grandchildren.
    Bunn was born in 1920 during the Depression, and her country home had to running water or electricity.

  • Turns one

    Palin Leanne Snider turned one Aug. 11. She celebrated Aug. 7 with a Princess party at Pleasant Grove Fellowship Hall with family and friends. Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider.

    She has an older sister, Blair Snider. Her grandparents are Danny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and Freida Deskins of Hillsville. She has a special aunt, Holly Choate.

    Breanna Lynn McMillian celebrated her second birthday Aug. 25 at home with a Princess party with family and friends. Her parents are Glen and Rebecca McMillian of Cana.
    Her paternal grandparents are Donald and Cathy McMillian of Cana. Maternal grandparents are Brenda Carter of Cana and James Bevins of Mount Airy, N.C. Paternal grandparent is Glen McMillian of Cana and maternal grandparents are Elsie Easter of Cana and Doris Finley of Mount Airy, N.C. Special aunts are Chasity McMillian and Tina Carter, both of Cana.

  • Hortons celebrate 50th anniversary

    Ranza and Doris Horton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 6.
    They were married by the Rev. Donald Clay, a Church of the Brethren pastor, at his home in Willis.

    They have lived 44 years on Oak Grove Road in Austinville.
    The couple enjoyed a weeks vacation at Holden Beach, N.C., with all their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and daughter, and then a surprise party at Carter’s Park with family.

    Ziley Sue, Jazzy and Zora Grace Richardson celebrated their respective second, fifth and fourth birthdays Aug. 8 with family and friends at a party at the home of their grandparents, Allen and Linda Richardson in Comers Rock.

    The Richardson sisters are the daughters of Glen and Christina Richardson.

    Pastor Jeff and Tammy Pickett announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Lynn Pickett, to Christopher Reed Mabry on Dec. 24, 2009.
    Chris is the son of B.C. and Teresa Mabry of Barren Springs.

    Megan is the maternal granddaughter of Kenneth and Sue Anders of Galax. She is the maternal great granddaughter of Ruth Rutherford of Galax. She is the paternal granddaughter of the late Charles and Bonnie Pickett.

    Hannah Leigh Parks and Justin Cebert Anders were married Aug. 21, 2010 in a private ceremony at 10 a.m. at Bald Rock United Methodist Church in Flat Ridge.
    Glenn Hyatt officiated.
    The bride is the daughter of Greg and Sharon Parks of Kernersville, N.C. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University, with degrees in psychology and outdoor education.
    The groom is the son of John and Leona Anders of Rugby. He is a graduate of Grayson County High School and is self employed.
