  • She's three

    Kennedié Cheyan Holder celebrated her third birthday Oct. 2 with a Pretty Princess Party at her Nana and Papa’s house with family and friends. She is the daughter of Brad and Sparkle Holder.

    Her grandparents are Mark and Paulette Chappell and Myrna and the late Barney Holder. She also celebrated with friends from Fairview Daycare.

    Casey Michael Jones turned three Oct. 5. He celebrated Sept. 25 with a cars theme party at his home with family and friends. He is the son of Jody and Debbie Jones of Hillsville.

    His grandparents are Katie and C.C. Dalton Jr. of Hillsville and Brenda and Harry Jones of Fries. His great-grandmother is Helen Jones of Fries. He has two special cousins, Carlie Dalton and Dalton Young.

  • Bowers, Diamond unite in marriage

    Travis Shea Bowers and Heather Nicole Diamond were married Sept. 18, 2010, at River Hill Christian Church.
    Pastor Leo Phillips performed the double-ring ceremony.

    The groom is the son of Clarence and Janice Bowers. His grandmother is Ruby Bowers.
    The bride is the daughter of Paula Diamond and Dallas Diamond. Her grandparents are Elmer and Ada Lee Williams.
    The bride was escorted down the aisle by her father and was given in marriage by her parents.
    The groom’s father was best man.

  • O'Dell, Norman marry

    Jessica Suzanne O’Dell and Jacob David Norman were married Oct. 2, 2010, at a 6 p.m. ceremony at Gate City Baptist Church in Jamestown, N.C.
    The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Chan Shaver.  A reception was held at the Clarion Hotel in Greensboro, N.C.

    The bride is the daughter of Chuck and Vicki Gregory of High Point, N.C., and the granddaughter of Mike and Susie Floyd of Galax.
    The groom is the son of James and Rita Norman of Marietta, Ga.
    The couple live in High Point, N.C.

  • Turns 96

    Agnes Marie Lundy Cox turned 96 years old on Aug. 19. Family and friends surprised her with a party on Aug. 14 at Flat Rock Community Building. She is widow of the late James Earl Cox of the Flat Rock community in Independence.

    Agnes has two children — Anne C. Collins of San Francisco, and Harry Cox of Independence. She has three grandchildren, Chris Cox and Brad Cox of Independence and Mary Lynne Ward of Galax; and great-grandsons Austin Cox and Braeden Ward.

    Tara Lynn Eddy of Lynchburg and Kevin Michael Spurlin of Galax were united in marriage June 27, 2010, at Ward Manor in Independence.
    The bride is the daughter of Owen and Judy Eddy of Castile, N.Y.  
    The groom is the son of Michael and Anita Spurlin of Galax.
    The uncle of the bride, the Rev. Allan Monfils, officiated.

    The bride was given in marriage by her father.

    He is the son of Josh and Kristy Newman of Galax and the grandson of Vince and Debra Goad of Hillsville, Jeff and Julie Bowers of Galax and Linnie Newman of Woodlawn. Great-grandparents are Elton and Anna Ruth Martin of Woodlawn, Lucky and Linda Goad of Laurel Fork, Lois Rippey of Galax, Kitty Bowers of Galax and Dylis and Faye Newman of Woodlawn. He has one great-great-grandmother, Mozelle Goad of Laurel Fork.

  • Bryants celebrate 60th anniversary

    Denny and Reva Bryant celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary Sept. 16.
    A surprise party was given at their home by the family.

    They have three children — Denny Ray, Donald Bryant and Darlene Hernandez; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
    Denny Bryant enjoys farming writing songs and playing old-time bluegrass guitar. Reva Bryant loves to grow prize roses, bird watching and caring for her poodle, “Buddy.”
    They are members of Hebron Church of Christ.

    Timber Abrianna Mundy celebrated her second birthday Aug. 20 with a Mickey Mouse party at her home. Her sisters Hope and Taelynn and many friends and family members joined her to celebrate.

    She is the daughter of Tammy L. Liddle and Tim L. Mundy of Woodlawn. Her maternal grandparents are Brenda Liddle of Woodlawn  and Charles Liddle of Galax. Paternal grandparents are Don and Mabelene Beverly and Wayne Mundy of Cana. A paternal great-grandparent is Ovella Easter.
