  • Liddles celebrate 50th anniversary

    Dale and Margaret Liddle celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary May 21, 2011.
    Their two children are Mark and Elizabeth Liddle and Jealynn and Mike Coleman.

    They have four grandchildren: Bethany Liddle, Ethan Liddle, Kemper Coleman and Daniel Coleman.
    The Liddles celebrated with a family meal at Pirate’s Landing in Elkin, N.C., a stay at the Greenbrier in West Virginia and a bicycling trip in Greenville, S.C., on the Swamp Rabbit Trail.

  • Gillilan, Carico exchange vows

    Josh Randall Carico and Brandy Lee Gillilan were united in marriage May 7, 2011, at Cliffview Church of God in Galax. The Rev. D.G. Fox performed the double-ring ceremony.
    The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents.

    The bride’s parents are Bruce and Mary Jo Gillilan of Fletcher, Vt. Her grandparents are Meredith Gillilan of Fletcher, Vt., and the late Cleon Gillilan and Grace Pigeon of Florida and the late Leo Pigeon.

  • Gauldin, Phipps marry

    Kayla Michelle Gauldin and Dustin Lane Phipps were married May 21 in Grassy Creek, N.C.  The Rev. Doug Turnmire officiated the ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Rick and Carla Gauldin of Sparta, N.C. Her maternal grandparents are Tony and Janie Duncan of Sparta.
    Her paternal grandparents are Carl and Ellie McMillian of Martinsville, and the late Neal Gauldin of Collinsville.

    Jacob Ray Buckley celebrated his fifth birthday June 1. He is the son of Thomas and Nichole Buckley of Galax and Natasha and Gerry Perez of Woodlawn.

    His grandparents are Darla Buckley of Galax and Junior Robinson of Woodlawn. His great-grandmother is Ruth Robinson. He has a younger brother, Ageo Perez.

    Jafon Hairston celebrated his third birthday May 7, 2011, with a “Thomas the train party.” His parents are Beth Price and Antionné Hairston.

    His grandparents are Grandpa Alan Price, Papa Garold Bilbrey and Grandma Blenda Bilbrey. Great-grandparents are Garnett and Helen Price and Violet Akers. Also attending were his uncle Travis and aunt Samantha and his special friend, Jamie Keller.

    Makayla Grace Hancock celebrated her first birthday March 28 with a Winnie the Pooh party at Trinity Baptist Church with family and friends. She is the daughter of Kevin and Pam Hancock of Hillsville.

    She is the granddaughter of Doug and Carol Hancock of Hillsville and Chuck and Pat Edwards of Woodlawn. She is the great-granddaughter of Joseph Ayers of Hillsville and Edd Crotts and Louis and Bonnie Edwards of Woodlawn.

  • Coulson, Moser to marry

    Terry and Renae Coulson of Hillsville announced the engagement of their daughter, Kelly Faith Coulson, to Nicolas Allen Moser, son of Jeff and Hollye Moser of Galax.

    Coulson is a 2008 graduate of Carroll County High School, and 2011 graduate of Wytheville Community College.
    Moser is a 2008 graduate of Galax High School and 2010 graduate of Southwest Community College.
    A May 2012 wedding is planned.

    Mr. and Mrs. Charles Anderson of King, N.C., announce the engagement of their daughter, Kimberly Nell Anderson to William Thomas Ritchie, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas L. Ritchie of Galax.
    Anderson is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Moore of King, N.C., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Anderson of Whiteville, N.C.

  • Key, Light engagement announced

    The Rev. and Mrs. Randy J. Key announced the engagement of their daughter, Melissa Gail Key, to David Aaron Light of Thomasville, N.C.
    Light is the son of Duane and Kimberly Light, also of Thomasville.

    The bride-to-be is the granddaughter of the late Howard and Verta “MaMa” Key and the late Paul Kendrick and Mary Kendrick, all of Martinsville.
    Key is a graduate of A Beka Academy.
    A February wedding is planned.
