  • Sumners celebrate anniversary

    Roger and Peggy Shaw Sumner celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Oct. 1, 2011. They were married September 29, 1961, at Camp Zion Church by Lonnie P. Shaw.

    Their children — Lisa Mitchell of Raleigh, N.C., Brad Sumner of Atlanta, and Carmen Sumner of Lincolnton, N.C. — hosted a party at Locust Grove Church Fellowship Hall. Also attending were their two grandchildren, Charlie and Molly Mitchell of Raleigh. Many family and friends helped celebrate the memorable occasion.

  • Turns two

    Palin Leanne Snider turned two Aug. 11. She celebrated Aug. 6 with a party at her home with family and friends. Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider.

    She has two sisters, Paisley and Blair Snider. Her grandparents are Danny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and Frieda Deskins of Hillsville. She has a special aunt, Holly Choate.

  • Reedy, Hill marry

    Robby Alan Hill and Brooke Nicole Reedy were united in marriage on Aug. 6, 2011, at Snow Hill Baptist Church. The Rev. Ernie Smith performed the double-ring ceremony.
    The bride was escorted by her father and given in marriage by her parents, Brian and Kim Reedy of Fairview.

    Her maternal grandparents are Caroll Harrison and the late Vena Ree Harrison of Elkhorn. Paternal grandparents are Bill and Claudine Reedy of Fairview.
    The groom’s parents are Ricky and Anna Hill of Galax.

    Carroll and Shirley Sumner of Galax celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Sept. 29 with a reception at Calvary Church of Christ.

    They have two children, Wayne Sumner and wife Cindy of Rappahannock and Lisa Cox and Husband Sid of Galax. They have three grandchildren, Jared Cox, Courtney Cox and Ethan Sumner.

  • Sanderses marry

    Jeff and Brooke Sanders exchanged nuptials at the Highlands Dragon Ridge Country Club in Las Vegas on New Year’s Eve 2010.

    The bride was escorted by her father and stepfather, and wore an ivory mermaid-cut Kenneth Poole gown with hand-embroidered tulle covered in Swarovski crystals with a cathedral length veil. Her bouquet was made of fresh black magic roses, purple vanda orchids and white calla lilies.
    The groom wore an ivory Mario tuxedo.
    Pastor Frank Nevarez of Cottonwood, Ariz., officiated. A quartet performed during the ceremony.

  • Hodge, Roberts marry

    Megan Faith Hodge and William Patrick Roberts were joined in marriage at Carsonville Full Gospel Church in Grayson County on July 16, 2011. Pastor Roy Junior Bentley officiated.
    A reception followed at the New River Wildlife Club.

    The bride is the daughter of Roy and the late Shirley Hodge of Galax. Her grandmother is Marie Newman of Galax.
    The groom is the son of Allen and Pam Roberts of Grayson County and the late Michelle Roberts.

    Melissa Lenee Burton of Pasadena, Calif., and Thomas Lane Hanks of Baywood were united in marriage on Aug. 28, 2011, at 7:15 p.m. at Sunset Gardens in Las Vegas, Nev.
    The bride is the daughter of John and Kendall Trazzo of Las Vegas.

    The groom is the son of Blake Hanks of Baywood and Aletta Hanks of Baywood. His grandparents are Billy and Bev Hanks of Baywood, Tom and Rena Galyean of Galax and Jean Harvey of Galax.
