  • She's three

    Palin Leanne Snider turned three Aug. 11. She celebrated with a Wizard of Oz party at her home with family and friends. Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider.

    She has two sisters, Paisley and Blair Snider. Her grandparents are Dannny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Her great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and Freida Deskins of Hillsville. She has an aunt, Holly Choate.

    Mason Ogle celebrated his first birthday Sept. 21 at his home with family and friends.

    He had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle theme. He is the son of Jared and Tammy Ogle and the grandson of Donnie and Janet Ogle and Kathy and Frank Delp.

  • Turns 6

    Madalyn Gregory turned 6 on Oct. 11. She celebrated with a Halloween costume party with her family and friends. She is the daughter of Jimmie and Whitney Gregory and the older sister of Aurora Sky Gregory of Fries.

    Her grandparents are John and Frances Pierce of Fries; William and Vergie Lundy, Shirley and the late Glen Ward and Eddie and Brenda Ward, all of Independence; and Jacky Testerman of North Carolina.

    Madison Abigail Sluss turned two on Oct. 22. She celebrated on Oct. 20 at Fairview Church with a “Wheels on the Bus” birthday party with family and friends.

    She is the daughter of Scott and Cindy Sluss of Galax. She has a brother, Brandon Sluss. Her grandparents are Robert and Regina Lundy of Ennice, N.C., and Bud and Pat Sluss of Tazwell.

  • Jones, Nelson wed

    Tiffany Janise Jones and Kriston Drew Nelson were united in marriage May 19 at Powder Mill Pond in Elk Creek in an afternoon Hawaiian-themed ceremony with family and friends.
    The Rev. Bobby Lorton of Radford officiated the double-ring ceremony.
    The bride is the daughter of Jimmy and Michele Jones of Independence. She is the granddaughter of Virginia Ruth Sutherland of Fries and the late Claiborne Sutherland and the late Henry and Janie Jones.

  • Hickam, Milans exchange vows

    Phyllis Elizabeth Hickam and Gregory James Milans were married Aug. 10, 2012, riverside at the New River Lodge in Galax.
    The double-ring ceremony was performed by Sam Bartlett, pastor of First Baptist Church of Galax.

    The bride is the daughter of Nancy Dixon Hickam of Galax and Jim Hickam, Jr., of Charlotte, N.C.
    She is a graduate of Galax High School and Roanoke College, where she received a bachelor’s degree in business administration. She is employed by West Health Institute in La Jolla, Calif.

  • Celebrates 60th anniversary

    Mr. and Mrs. Garnett Junior Lineberry of Woodlawn were honored with a celebration at their home church, Mount Zion Primitive Baptist, on Aug. 12.

    The couple was married on Aug. 2, 1952. They have five children and 11 grandchildren. 
    Family, friends, and the church family honored the couple with a celebration of love and treasured memories.

  • Brannock, Davis united in marriage

    Mr. and Mrs. Walter Davis, Vanada Sue Brannock and Timmy Brannock announce the marriage of their children, Douglas Wayne Davis and Angel Lynn Brannock on June 9, 2012 at Camp Zion Church. The Rev. Sam Blevins officiated.
    The bride was given in marriage by her family and uncle Rickie Newman.

    Matron of honor was Tammy Stone, sister of the bride.
    Best man was Jamie Davis Sr., brother of the groom.
    Bridesmaids were Tina Davis, sister-in-law of the groom, Heather Oneal, Samantha Thomas and Echo Baskett.

  • Hodge, Vaughan to marry

    Ralph and Rhonda Hodge of Fries announce the engagement of their daughter, Angel Michelle Hodge, to Justin Rodney Vaughan, son of Rodney and Edna Vaughan of Fries.
    Hodge is the granddaughter of the late Staley and Donna Lee Hodge and the late Wayne and Addie Bobbitt.

    She is a 2003 graduate of Grayson County High School and a 2007 graduate of Virginia Tech. Hodge has a bachelor’s degree in communication and is employed by Brazzell Marketing Agency in Galax.

  • Belton to turn 80 on Oct. 11

    Ray Belton will celebrate his 80th birthday Oct. 11. He and his wife, Dorothy, have been married 57 years.

    They have four children: Kenneth Belton, Janice Warf, Wanda Wingate and Bobby Elliott.
