  • Turns one

    Blake Anderson Blevins celebrated his first birthday Oct. 24 with a safari birthday party with family at Macado’s.

    He is the son of Jason and Alison Blevins of Galax. His grandparents are Jim and Brenda Blevins of Ennice, N.C., and Ray and Nonnie Plummer of Troutdale.

  • Halls to celebrate 50th anniversary

    Ted and Geraldine (Dean) Hall of Upperco, Md., will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Christmas Day.
    Not only was Dean born on Christmas Day, but married on Christmas Day.

    Ted, born and raised in Galax, is a 1958 graduate of Galax High School.
    The Halls will renew their vows in a ceremony at Living Hope Baptist Church, Reisterstown, Md.

  • Crouses celebrate 50th anniversary

    Fred and Norma Crouse celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner at Ryan’s Restaurant hosted by their sons.
    The Crouses were married on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22, 1962, in York, S.C.

    The couple were raised in Galax, where they met. Mrs. Crouse is the former Norma J. Ring.
    They lived in Kernersville, N.C., where they raised sons Ray and Thomas.
    Their extended family includes Ray’s wife, Lynn; daughters Marissa and Miranda; along with Thomas’ wife, Lori, and daughter, Molly.

  • Twins turn 70

    Jennette Hilliard Nicholson Morris of Independence and twin brother D.B. Hilliard Jr. of Kernersville, N.C., celebrated their 70th birthday with 25 family members and friends at the Depot Restaurant in Dobson, N.C., Oct. 6.
    Morris retired from Twin County Regional Hospital Home health in April and Hilliard retired from ABF Trucking in 2005.
    Morris and family moved to Grayson County in 1983. She has four children, 10 grandchildren and three step-children.

  • She's eight

    Lindsey Elizabeth McMillan of Grant celebrated her eighth birthday on Nov. 16. 

    She had a birthday party at Grayson Highlands School with all of her second-grade classmates, and a second party at the Log House restaurant in Volney with friends and relatives.

  • He's one

    Jacob Hunter Hancock celebrated his first birthday July 25 with a Winnie the Pooh party at the lake with family and friends. He is the son of Kevin “Bubba” and Pam Hancock of Hillsville.

    His grandparents are Doug and Carol Hancock of Hillsville and Chuck and Pat Edwards of Woodlawn. His great-grandparents are Joseph Ayers of Hillsville, Edd Crotts of Woodlawn and Louis and Bonnie Edwards of Woodlawn.

  • She's 80

    Juanita Sutphin of Galax turned 80 years old on Sept. 10. She was honored with a surprise birthday party hosted by family at her home church, Fries Church of God of Prophecy. About 75 people attended.

    Her children are Rick (and Pam) Sutphin of Spartanburg, S.C.; Pat Sutphin Williams of Mooresville, N.C.; and (Eddie and) Martha Baumgardner of Galax. Juanita was surprised and thankful for the outpouring of support and love. The family thanked all who made the party a success.

  • He's one

    Levi Kristopher Ward celebrated his first birthday Oct. 4 with a party and monkey cake at his home in Independence. He is the son of Kris and Mary Lynne Ward.

    His grandparents are Harry Cox, Bo and Susan Moxley, and Harvey and Jill Ward. His great-grandparents are Agnes Cox, Mary Jane Hollingsworth, Odell Moxley, Danna Ward and Lacy and Dreama Bowman.

  • Turns one

    Morgan Machel Anderson celebrated her first birthday Aug. 17 with family and friends. She had a Minnie Mouse themed party at the Galax Fire Department on Aug. 18. She is the daughter of Stephen and Samantha Anderson of Galax.

    Her grandparents are Dave and Becky Williams of Fries and Neil and Debbie Anderson of Galax. Her great-grandparents are Harold and Nancy Williams of Fries and Wayne and Louise Roberts of Independence.

  • She's three

    Palin Leanne Snider turned three Aug. 11. She celebrated with a Wizard of Oz party at her home with family and friends. Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider.

    She has two sisters, Paisley and Blair Snider. Her grandparents are Dannny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Her great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and Freida Deskins of Hillsville. She has an aunt, Holly Choate.
