  • Flanagans celebrate anniversary

    Donald and Juanita (Parnell) Flanagan celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary April 17.

    Both are retired from Sara Lee.

  • He's one

    William Cayson Sluss turned one on Feb. 25. He celebrated his birthday Feb. 28 at Fairview Church with a Mickey Mouse Club house theme, with family and friends. He is the son of Scott and Cindy Sluss of Galax.

    He has a brother, Brandon Sluss; and a sister, Madison Sluss. His grandparents are Robert and Regina Lundy of Ennice, N.C., and Bud and Pat Sluss of Tazewell.

  • McCormick, Hash to wed

    Jeremy and Kristi McCormick of Independence announced the engagement of their daughter, Darien Brooke McCormick, to Ethan Wayne Hash, son of Roger and Terrie Hash of Independence.

    A June 2015 wedding is planned.

  • Presutti, Bowen announce engagement

    Victoria Ann Presutti and Stephen Preston Bowen announced their upcoming marriage.
    The bride-to-be is the daughter of Susan and C.R. Minor, and R. David Presutti of Morristown, Tenn.

    She was graduated from Morristown Hamblen High School East in 2011.
    She is a student at the University of Tennessee, studying therapeutic recreation and psychology, and is employed by CVS Pharmacy and Studio 7 by Avalon in Morristown.
    The groom-to-be is the son of Stephen and Rhonda Hall Bowen of Mouth of Wilson.

  • Turns 95

    Geneva Hanks Richardson of Woodlawn celebrated her 95th birthday with a dinner given by her family at Forest Oak Christian Church.

    Her children are: Harlin Richardson, Clyda Rosenbaum, Margaret Liddle and Karen Goad. She has eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She is the widow of George H. Richardson Sr.

  • Nelson, Childress to marry

    Gregory and Rebecca Nelson of Baywood announce the engagement of their daughter, Ashley Nelson, of Kingsport, Tenn., to Allen Childress of Shawsville, son of Marty and Sue Childress of Shawsville.

    The bride-to-be was graduated from Grayson County High School in 2007, from Emory & Henry College in 2011, and from Virginia Tech in 2013. She is a statistician at Eastman Chemical Company in Kingsport.

  • Turns 95

    Dan O. Carico celebrated his 95th birthday Feb. 22.

    He has four children, six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

    Paisley Brooke Snider celebrated her fourth birthday Jan. 31 with a Sheriff Callie party with family and friends. Special guests were Joy the Clown and face painter Linda Gibson.

    Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider, and her older sister is Palin Snider. Grandparents are Danny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and the late Frieda Deskins. Her aunt is Holly Choate.

  • Funk, Morris to marry

    Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Allan Funk of Galax announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Katherine, to Andrew Stephen Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Barker Morris of Fredericksburg.

    Funk is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Larry Spangler of Galax and Mrs. James M. Braswell Jr. and the late Mr. Braswell of Elm City, N.C.
    Funk is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in sociology.
    She is employed as an admissions representative with West Virginia Junior College in Morgantown, W.Va.

  • Myerses celebrate wedding anniversary

    Ann and Tony Myers are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on March 6.
    Ann is the daughter of the late Helen and Ralph Simpson and Tony is the son of the late Annie and Leonard Myers.

    They were married in 1965 in Hilliard, Ohio.
    They have raised two children, Bill Myers and Toni Marie Teeter, and have seven grandchildren.
