  • She's four

    Paisley Brooke Snider celebrated her fourth birthday Jan. 31 with a Sheriff Callie party with family and friends. Special guests were Joy the Clown and face painter Linda Gibson.

    Her parents are Curtis and Lorie Snider, and her older sister is Palin Snider. Grandparents are Danny and Linda Deskins of Dugspur and Harold and Joyce Snider of Dublin and the late Kathy Snider. Great-grandparents are Pauline Marshall of Laurel Fork and the late Frieda Deskins. Her aunt is Holly Choate.

  • Funk, Morris to marry

    Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Allan Funk of Galax announce the engagement of their daughter, Mary Katherine, to Andrew Stephen Morris, son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Barker Morris of Fredericksburg.

    Funk is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Larry Spangler of Galax and Mrs. James M. Braswell Jr. and the late Mr. Braswell of Elm City, N.C.
    Funk is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a degree in sociology.
    She is employed as an admissions representative with West Virginia Junior College in Morgantown, W.Va.

  • Myerses celebrate wedding anniversary

    Ann and Tony Myers are celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary on March 6.
    Ann is the daughter of the late Helen and Ralph Simpson and Tony is the son of the late Annie and Leonard Myers.

    They were married in 1965 in Hilliard, Ohio.
    They have raised two children, Bill Myers and Toni Marie Teeter, and have seven grandchildren.

  • Hager, Smith to marry

    Joy and Wayne Hager and Chris and Katherine Smith announced the engagement of their children, Laura Hager of Raleigh, N.C., and Cody W. Smith of Ararat.

    The bride-elect will graduate from Meredith College in the spring.
    She is the granddaughter of Carolyn and Graham Crutchfield of Raleigh, N.C., and Doug Hager of Lexington, Ky.
    The bridegroom-elect is an assistant manager for B&H Computers in Mount Airy, N.C.
    He is the grandson of Mary Smith Berrier of Cana and Marie Marshall of Hillsville.
    An August wedding is planned.

  • Osborne, Beaver to marry

    David and Debbie Osborne of Independence and Mike and Ann Beaver of Cripple Creek announced the engagement of Elizabeth Devin Osborne and Stephen Michael Beaver.

    Devin is a graduate of Wytheville Community College and is a licensed physical therapist assistant for Worrell Therapy Services.
    Stephen is a graduate of Wytheville Community College and is a licensed electrician for RCS Communications in Max Meadows.
    An April 2015 wedding is planned and the couple will live in Independence.

    Hannah Marie Hash celebrated her third birthday on Feb. 25. Family and friends celebrated with Hannah at her tractor party on Feb. 22. She is the daughter of Josh and Sarah Hash.

    Her grandparents are Joe and Felicia Hash, Charles and Tammy Copeland and Cody and Karen Wingate. She is the great-granddaughter of Wayne and Wanda Hash, James Hart, Frances Adams, Jerry and Nell Wingate and Thomas and Leta Farmer.

  • Turns 80

    L.D. Galyean celebrated his 80th birthday Feb. 18 with family at his home in Galax.

    He still works every day and stays young at heart.

  • Staples, Frazier to marry

    Morris and Dreama Staples of Hillsville announced the engagement of their daughter, Elaina Staples, to Matthew Frazier.

    He is the son of Tony and Sherry Frazier of Galax.
    A June wedding is planned.

  • Nelson, Rippey exchange vows

    Ashley Nicole Nelson and William Matthew Rippey were united in marriage Sept. 13, 2014, at Cliffview Church of God in Galax.
    Pastor Ron Hill presented a welcome and prayer. The Rev. D.G. Fox, former pastor of the bride, officiated.

    The bride is the daughter of Harold and Judy Nelson of Galax and the granddaughter of Porter and Bonnie Noblett, Mary Nelson and the late Billy Nelson, all of Independence.

  • Quesinberry, Petke to marry

    Thomas and Jamee Quesinberry announced the engagement of their daughter, Ashleymarie Quesinberry of Hillsville, to Harold Petke of Massena, N.Y.
