  • Anders, McCleary united in marriage

    Sam McCleary and Debbie Anders were united in marriage July 26.
    Anders is the daughter of Ruby Anders and the late Don Anders.

    The ceremony was officiated by Hershel Brewer.
    Serving as bridesmaid was Amanda Jansen, daughter of the bride.
    Best man was Seth Young, son-in-law of the groom.
    Other family and friends attended.
    The couple resides in Galax.

  • She's six

    Samantha Autumn Rose celebrated her sixth birthday June 24. Her parents are Tina and Eric Rose of Fries. Her sisters are Cheyenne and Trinity and her brother is Ryder Rose of Fries.

    Her grandparents are Jimmy and Edna Hines of Fries and the late Connie Dowling of Fries. Her great-grandparents are Robert and the late Ressie Dowling of Fries and the late Mollie and Hobert Hines of Fries and the late Allie Rose and Arlene Osborne of Independence.

  • Adams, Thomason wed

    Jessica Adams and Joshua Thomason were united in marriage May 9 in a beautiful private ceremony on the beach in Ocean Isle, N.C., with family attending.

    Jessica is the daughter of Rodger and Karen Adams and sister of Allison Adams. Josh is the son of Bobby and Brenda Thomason.
    Jessica’s maternal grandparents were the late James and Ann Cruise of Galax. Her paternal grandparents are Annie Adams and the late Raymond Adams of the Beckley area of West Virginia.

  • Mays, Shaffner marry

    Holly Nicole Mays and Geoffrey Scott Shaffner were married June 28, 2014, at a 4 p.m. ceremony along the scenic New River.
    The ceremony was performed by Pastor Myron Dalton. A reception was held at Cliffview Church fellowship hall.

    The bride is the daughter of Mike and Dana Woodel and Larry and Darla Mays, all of Galax.
    The groom is the son of Steve and Janie Shaffner of Fries.
    The bride was given in marriage by her father, Larry Mays.

  • She's three

    Cassidy “Cassie” Lynne Marshall turned three on July 23.  Her birthday was celebrated with a Merida river party. She is the daughter of Joseph and Chrissy Marshall. She is younger sister of Izzie, and older sister to Briley Marshall.

    Her grandparents are Randy and Kim Bell and Dennis and Opie Marshall. Her great-grandparents are M.C. and Irene Bell, the late Verna Liddle, O’Neal and O’Needa Terry, the late Virgil and Patty Marshall.

    Blair Marie Dalton celebrated her first birthday July 3. She is the daughter of Jason and Stephanie Dalton.

    Her grandparents are Ricky and Cissy Dalton of Fancy Gap, Ernestine and Robert Clark of Fairview and Danilo and Iris Martinez of Cypress, Texas. Her great-grandparents are Ralph and Modena Dalton of Woodlawn and Annabelle Horton of Fancy Gap. She has two sisters, Jenna and Kristen Dalton.

  • Myers, Stone marry

    Lindsay Erin Myers and Roger Dale Stone were married May 3, 2014, at Graystone Presbyterian Church in Knoxville, Tenn.
    Michael Thomas was the officiating minister.
    Maid of honor was Kelly Myers, sister of the bride. Matron of honor was Gayle Higgs, sister of the bride.
    Bridesmaids were Laura Benner, Katie Helms, Mandi Meek and Amy Cole.
    Groomsmen were Fred Stone, father of the groom; Garrett Cole, brother‑in‑law of the groom; and Jonathan Cole, Kevin Kosier, Kent Kosier and Justin Black.
    Ring bearer was Dylan Benner.

  • Ramey, Adams to marry

    Melissa Mullins of Galax announces the engagement of her daughter, Alisha Ramey, to Mark Adams Jr. of Galax.

    Ramey is a graduate of George Wythe High School and attends Bluefield College.
    Adams was graduated from Galax High School and is employed with Hill’s Trucking Co.
    A September wedding is planned.

  • He's five

    Christopher “Mason” Nobili recently celebrated his fifth birthday with his family and friends with a “Octonaut” ocean themed birthday party at the Sardis Swim Club in Charlotte, N.C.

    He is the son of Chris and Christina Nobili of Charlotte, N.C. He is the grandson of John and Jenny Nobili of Woodlawn, Rebecca and Danny Primm of Austinville, and Arlie and Toni Hall of Fancy Gap. He is the great-grandson of Artie Belle Primm of Hillsville.

  • Porters celebrate 60th anniversary

    Ray and Mabel (Cox) Porter of Galax celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 19.
    They enjoyed their special day by visiting York, S.C., where they were wed.
    Ray is retired from ABF and Mabel is retired from Sears.

    The Porters’ two children are Roger Porter and his wife Laurie, and Randy Porter, all of Galax. They have two grandchildren, Kaitlin and Michael.
    They enjoy traveling, motorcycles and days full of sunshine. They are members of First United Methodist Church in Galax and are active members of the Galax Car Club.
