    Her older siblings are Andrew and Faith. Her grandparents are Julian and Patti Price of Luray; Gary and Jan Guynn, Harvey Hennis, and Judy Hennis, all of Galax. Elizabeth Johnson is her great-grandmother from Galax.

    Levi Kristopher Ward turned four years old on Oct. 4. He celebrated with a construction site pool party at Wytheville Community Center.

    He is the son of Kris and Mary Lynne Ward and has two brothers, Braeden and Luke. His grandparents are Harry Cox, Bo and Susan Moxley and Harvey and Jill Ward. His great-grandparents are Mary Jane Hollingsworth, Odell Moxley, Danna Ward and Lacy and Dreama Bowman.

  • VanEngen, Helmick to marry

    Ches R. Helmick of Galax and Meagan VanEngen announce their engagement.
    They will be married in 2016 in Lynchburg.
    Helmick is with Edward Jones Investments.

    VanEngen is a doctoral student at Virginia Tech.
    They attended Liberty University.
    The couple said that any gifts can be made in their name to the Twin County Humane Society or Backpack Buddies.

    Bobby Bunn took his mother, Annabelle, who had just turned 95, for a ride on his motorcycle recently. She is in good health, takes no medication and has lived a busy life.

    Haleigh Grace Smith celebrated her third birthday Aug. 26 with a family birthday party at her grandparents’ house. She is the daughter of Cory and Elena Smith of Austinville.

    Her paternal grandparents are Charles and Sue Smith of Fries. Her maternal grandparents are Doug and Glenda Forester of Galax and the late James “Jimmy” Brewer Sr. of Fries.

    Kaitlyn Grace Clontz celebrated her fourth birthday Sept. 4 with a Frozen party at her home with family and friends.

    She is the daughter of Danielle Clontz of Fries and Allen Keene of Roanoke. Her grandparents are Tim and Rebecca Clontz of Fries and Jerry and Barbara Keene of Tazewell.

  • Butlers celebrate 60th anniversary

    J.D. and Jackie Butler of Galax celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with a surprise get-together with family and friends at Macado’s Restaurant in Galax.

    They were married Sept. 30, 1955, at First United Methodist Church in Pearisburg.
    They have two children: son Michael and wife Betty Butler; and daughter Stacy and husband Buck Cox. They have three grandchildren, Jamie and wife Hannah Butler of Jonesboro, Tenn., and Jordyn and Lauryn Cox of Galax.
    J.D. retired after 36 years of service with American Electric Power Co.

  • Nicolescu‑Waggonner, Lazo exchange vows

    Isabel Cristina Nicolescu‑Waggonner of Los Angeles, Calif., formerly of Bucharest, Romania, and James Lazo of Los Angeles, Calif., were united in marriage Sept. 19, 2015, at Stonefarm in Elk Creek.
    Robert Lazo, brother of the groom, officiated.
    A reception was held on the lawn of the farm.

  • Griggs, Silcox announce engagement

    Lauren Griggs and Benjamin Silcox, along with their families, announce their engagement.
    Lauren is the daughter of Laurie and Roger Porter of Galax and Charles and Michelle Griggs of New Mexico.

    Her grandparents are Bill and Bobbie Copeland of Hillsville, and Ruthie Griggs, also of Hillsville.
    Benjamin is the son of Mary and Chad Paderick of Troutville and the late Benjamin Webb Silcox of Troutville.
