Each year, National Night Out gets bigger and better, with more activities, more event-goers and more volunteers.
This year, National Night Out, a free community event, will be held Aug. 2 from 6-9 p.m. in downtown Galax, featuring dozens of kids activities, a mechanical bull, pony rides and bounce houses. The Galax Volunteer Fire Department will bring their fire trucks to give ladder rides.
The Galax High School stomp group will perform from 6-7 p.m., and a DJ will provide the entertainment for the rest of the night.

The annual Children's Christmas Party held at the Galax Elks Lodge on Dec. 12 provided toys and clothes to about 500 children throughout Carroll and Grayson counties and the City of Galax.

Children's names are provided through social services, and each year Elks Lodge members raise about $9,000 for the campaign to pass out gifts to newborns up to the age of 12.

 The Galax Y’s Men’s Club will lead its 28th annual Community Christmas Chest Fund that has a goal this year to provide Christmas boxes filled with food to 550 families in need.

The Y’s Men will lead the effort to raise $27,500 to provide for these families. Each of the boxes will be loaded with $50 worth of food.
