A Galax woman has been arrested on drug possession and child endangerment charges, according to a report from Police Chief Rick Clark.

Clark advised that Connie Dianne Alley, 40, was arrested on Dec. 18 after Galax police were called to Allen Lane to check on a child standing outside of a home in the cold weather.
Temperatures that day ranged from the mid-30s to low 20s.
Police Officer Drew Burnett charged Alley after suspected narcotics were discovered at the scene, Clark said.
The Galax Department of Social Services was called to assist and investigate the alleged child neglect and abuse for the child who prompted the call, along with a younger sibling, he added.
Alley received charges of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, possession of a Schedule II controlled substance and child endangerment. She was transported to the New River Valley Regional Jail and is now free on bond after her appearance in Galax General District Court.
