HILLSVILLE — Town police charged a Barren Springs woman and continue searching for her husband in connection with a rash of thefts from vending machines.
A Carroll deputy, Barry Lineberry, saw a subject attempting to break into a drink machine at Montgomery Auto Care on West Stuart Drive in Hillsville at about 5:30 a.m. July 19, according to a news release from the Hillsville Police Department.
As Lineberry went to investigate, a male subject fled on foot.
Hillsville officers, Carroll County deputies and canine units from Carroll and Galax attempted to track the man, the news release said. This subject is still at large.
Police arrested Tina Michelle Pauley, 42, the news release said. They charged her with petit larceny and destruction of property.
Officers identified the male subject as James Michael Pauley, 48.
Warrants have been issued for his arrest. Officers encouraged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the Hillsville Police Department at 728-2251 or the Carroll Sheriff’s Office at 728-4146.
Police described Pauley as a white male, 5-foot-7-inches tall, 170 pounds, brown hair, possibly cut in a mullet, and brown eyes.
Police suspect the Pauleys of being responsible for vandalism of drink machines in a number of neighboring jurisdictions.
The investigation is ongoing.
Tina Pauley was held at the New River Valley Regional Jail.
