Turnout could be high in Tuesday's election, with a tight race for president
On Tuesday, local voters will head to the polls to choose a president, a Virginia senator and a representative for the state's 9th Congressional District.
There are no local races on this year's ballots in Galax, Carroll and Grayson.
President Barack Obama, a Democrat, faces a challenge from Republican Mitt Romney, governor of Massachusetts.
The U.S. Senate race is between two former Virginia governors — Republican George Allen and Democrat Tim Kaine.
Closer to home, Republican Morgan Griffith of Salem, the incumbent representative for the U.S. House of Representatives 9th District of Virginia, is in a race against political newcomer Anthony Flaccavento, a Democrat from Abingdon. The 9th District includes the City of Galax and Carroll and Grayson counties.
There are also two questions on the ballot for voters to vote "yes" or "no" on.
The first measure, if passed, would limit instances when private property could be taken for public use.
The second measure, if passed, would allow the legislature to delay the start of its veto session by up to one week.
