I would like to thank everyone for the dedication of the open-air theater in the dell behind the Galax Public Library.
To have the theater named in my honor was beyond my expectations. I am proud, and at the same time, humbled, by the honor, since so many of my friends were instrumental in the conception, initiation and actualization of the Galax Theater Guild and its many productions.
At the dedication ceremony I thanked many who have passed on, or could not attend. I would like to credit them here, knowing that I certainly cannot thank all of them. It is an accomplishment of the Twin County and Galax communities and a host of individuals.
The founding members include Bill Waddell; Lois and Don Fincher; Millie, Al and Jayne Victor; Ginger Correll; Beverly and Juan Rios; and Sue Helton, Mariah and John Nunn.
Also, the Finchers, the Fants, the Stones, the Vaughans and many other families were instrumental in stimulating the arts.
The Lazos, Deeses, Morrises and Carolyn Davis and many other families have taken up the standard and will bring more arts to the area: symphony, theater, sculpture, painting, pottery and the mountain folk arts such as the crafting of traditional instruments and furniture.
Now the infrastructure is in place, under the umbrella of the Twin County Arts Council. The future is ours and you have built it.
In brief, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. If I have left out a name, rest assured that your work was truly appreciated.
