Grayson County dropped an 81-69 decision to Fort Chiswell in its Mountain Empire District finale Thursday, ending any hopes of a district championship for the Blue Devils.
Grayson County, which had defeated the Pioneers 99-84 eight days earlier, was outscored 48-31 in the second half after rallying for a 38-33 halftime lead. The loss gave Galax the regular season championship.
The Blue Devils finish second in the district standings and will face the No. 3 Pioneers in a rematch in the MED tournament semifinals Tuesday at Galax.
Complete coverage, including tournament pairings, will appear online and in Monday's print edition.
