Galax earned a first-round bye and will open Region C Division 1 volleyball tournament action Wednesday.
The Mountain Empire District regular season and tournament champion Maroon Tide will play at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Eastern Montgomery H.S. against the winner of Monday's Craig County-Narrows first-round match. The championship is scheduled for Thursday at 7 at EastMont.
Carroll County will open Region IV tournament play at home tonight (Monday) at 7 p.m. against River Ridge District opponent Blacksburg. The Indians defeated Christiansburg in the River Ridge tournament consolation match.
Region C Division 1
Galax will host Rural Retreat in the first round of the Region C Division 1 football playoffs, with kickoff set for 7:30 p.m. The Maroon Tide (7-3) is the No. 3 seed and is making its first playoff appearance since 2002. Rural Retreat (4-6) enters postseason play as the No. 6 seed. The winner will travel to Bath County for the semifinals, probably on Saturday, Nov. 20.
Region C Division 2
Grayson County will travel to George Wythe for the quarterfinals of the Division 2 playoffs. The Blue Devils finished at 6-4 and earned the No. 5 seed in the bracket, with the Hogoheegee District champion Maroons taking the No. 4 seed with a 7-3 mark. Game time is 7:30 p.m. The winner will advance to the semifinals to meet No. 1 seed Radford (7-3).
Region IV Division 4
Carroll County will host Bassett in a rematch of the season opener for both schools as Region IV Division 4 play begins Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Cavaliers (7-3) dropped their opener to the Bengals 17-14 on a last-second field goal but won seven of their next nine to finish as the No. 4 seed in the region. Bassett (4-6) is the No. 5 seed. The winner travels to No. 1 Christiansburg for the semifinals.
