Two Galax men charged with stealing car in N.C.

Two local suspects were charged in connection with a stolen car incident in Surry County, N.C. Grayson County Chief Deputy David Ashby said Deputy Kevin Watson checked a parked car on Grinders Mill Road about 6:30 p.m. on July 28. The license number was discovered to be issued to a Ford Focus reported stolen in Surry County.

Two suspects were found walking on Grinders Mill Road, and after further investigation by Watson, both were charged with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle. Watson placed charges against Calvin Jermaine Maxwell, 29, and Bobby Hawks, both of Galax. A female juvenile with the two suspects was released and not charged.
Watson was assisted in the case by Deputy Stephen Killon.
Both suspects were placed in the New River Valley Regional Jail in Dublin pending their appearance in Grayson County General District Court. Maxwell was placed on $10,000 bond, and Hawks on $1,500 bond.
