A Wytheville couple was arrested and charged with the theft of electronic equipment at the Galax Walmart on July 16.

Thanks to numerous tips received after the Galax Police Department shared security camera photos on its Facebook page, Jessica Lynn Sexton, 21, and Joseph Smith IV, 23, were charged with grand larceny and petit larceny by Galax Senior Police Officer John Reavis.

A police report said tips identifying the suspects were received within the first 30 minutes of the post.

The arrests stem from two separate thefts that occurred on July 16 between 5 and 7 p.m.

Sexton was held on a $2,000 secured bond and Smith was held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail.

Both were scheduled for arraignment in Galax General District Court on Monday at 1 p.m.

The police department was assisted by the Wythe County Sheriff’s Office and Wytheville Police Department in the apprehension of Sexton and Smith. Officer Adam Newman handled the initial investigation.
