HILLSVILLE — Two Hillsville residents have been charged with abuse and neglect of a child after an infant was taken for medical treatment to a hospital in North Carolina, according to town police.
Charged are Joseph Ray Jones, 23, and Amanda Marie Thomas, 23, according to Hillsville Police Chief Greg Bolen.
Sgt. James Alderman launched an investigation after a Jan. 24 complaint of child abuse came to authorities from Carroll County Social Service Department’s child protective services unit.
The complaint involved an infant who was admitted to Brenner’s Children’s Hospital in Winston-Salem, N.C., for treatment of unspecified injuries.
The child’s injuries were thought to be life-threatening at the time, Bolen said. The infant was hooked to a ventilator while receiving treatment.
The child protective services unit has the child in custody.
