Two people have been arrested and charged with a series of offenses that occurred on May 8 in Galax.
Shortly before 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Officer Chris Hines of the Galax Police Department was dispatched to Poplar Street to investigate the suspicious conduct of two individuals.
According to a police report, Hines observed a male and female acting unusual. During a field interview, Hines' observations led to the discovery of suspected narcotics and what he believed to be stolen property.
An investigation conducted by Hines and Sgt. Shawny Jones alleged that the pair had broken in to a home on Poplar Street and attempted to break in to two more houses.
Hines and Jones arrested Dustin Grey Goad, 23, of Mount Airy, N.C., and Danielle Marie Theimann, 22, of Murrells, S.C.
The suspects are being held on one count each of burglary of a dwelling in the nighttime, two counts of attempted burglary of a dwelling in the nighttime, two counts of larceny of a firearm, grand larceny, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine and possession of untaxed whiskey.
Both are being held in the New River Valley Regional Jail pending their appearance in the Galax General District Court.
The police department reminds everyone that these arrests were the result of a citizen taking time to call when they observed suspicious activity in their neighborhood.
“In all likelihood these crimes would have gone unsolved without citizen involvement,” said Police Chief Rick Clark.
