Officers arrested Tropical Tanning Salon owner Jimmy Ray Linville, 51, on March 28 at his business, charging him with rape of a child less than 13 years of age.
The arrest of Linville, of 105 Jason Heights Drive in Galax, was followed by an investigation that began over the weekend.
According to Galax Police Chief Rick Clark, the police department was notified about a complaint that was placed with Child Protective Services. This information led to the arrest.
According to a search warrant filed in Carroll County Circuit Court, investigators seized from Linville’s home a laptop computer, a camera, a recorder, a hooded jacked and white socks.
The warrant says police were seizing property, including all computers, peripherals and storage devices capable of storage and facilitation of storage “that may give evidence to the possession, reproduction or facilitation of child pornography... Any seized evidence will be removed for off-sight forensic examination.”
Clark said it may be weeks or months before investigators hear back about the results of the items that were seized.
Linville is being held without bond pending a hearing on April 2 in Galax Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court. The investigation is ongoing and no further details are available at this time, Clark said.
