Training center must remain open

-A A +A

I would like to thank reporter Chris Brooke and The Gazette for recent coverage of an online petition to “Save Our Training Centers,” spearheaded by Northern Virginia Training Center.
This coverage keeps the public informed about this most important issue.
The Parent Advocacy & Advisory Council of Southwest Virginia continues to work diligently with legislators to slow down this flawed process of discharging residents without placements which can adequately meet their intense needs.
First and foremost, we believe these institutions meet all requirements of skilled care and must remain open!
More monies for community placements must be forthcoming for those individuals who can live successfully in our community.
We need intermediate care facilities and specialized group homes for residents being discharged. Right now in our rural areas of Southwest Virginia, there are none!
I encourage your readers to write letters, call the Readers’ Hotline, and contact legislators, especially those seeking office of governor.
Strong people stand up for themselves, but the strongest people stand up for others.
