Traffic stop leads to drug charges

Ernest Charles Dickens, 28, of Breezy Road in Woodlawn was arrested May 12 and charged with possession of methamphetamine and prescription drugs, after Galax Police Officer Darin Alley stopped Dickens’ vehicle.
According to a police report, Dickens was stopped for driving with defective equipment.  Upon checking the registration of the vehicle, Alley discovered that the car’s license tags were improperly registered.
Dickens was taken into custody after further investigation and charged with driving on a suspended license, DUI-related; possession of Schedule II drug (oxycontin); possession of Schedule II drug (methamphetamine); and possession of Schedule IV drug (Clonopin).
Dickens was also found to be wanted in Wise County for failure to appear in court.
He was transported to the New River Regional Jail pending court appearances in Galax and Wise County.
