INDEPENDENCE — Independence is one of seven communities in the 13-state Appalachian Region selected to receive federal technical assistance under the Livable Communities program.
Few details are available, but federal and town officials were expected to announce more about the project on Tuesday.
The funding from Appalachian Regional Commission, Environmental Protection Agency and USDA Rural Development would “help to develop plans that improve business traffic into the downtown area through the construction of new sidewalks and an artisan and farmer’s market,” according to a press release.

We'll have more on this project in The Gazette and here at www.galaxgazette.com
