Celebration set for Friday

Tlaquepaque, a Mexican restaurant located at 1003 E. Stuart Drive in Galax, will hold its grand re-opening Friday to celebrate a remodeling.
It will offer food and drink specials, and a mariachi band will perform.
Tlaquepaque, owned by Lulu Lopez, her husband Juan and friend Terry Madrigal, first opened in 1993 in what is now the Subway restaurant location in Galax.
Tlaquepaque moved to its current location in 2000.
“When we first moved here, we had a simple menu, didn’t speak much English and very few Latinos lived here,” said Lulu Lopez.  “Now, we know everybody, and we have gained so much support from the community, and we help support the community.”
She said the restaurant grew from seating just 35 to almost 190.
“We have grown over the years from a simple menu to finding new recipes, offering specials and employing about 15 workers,” she said. “We do our best to make the customers happy.
“We just want to thank the community for supporting us throughout the years. This community has become our family.”
