FLOYD -- For the second time in two weeks Galax pushed a run across late in the game to take a one-run win over Floyd County, this time edging the Buffaloes 7-6 in a nondistrict game Thursday. The Maroon Tide (2-2) had scratched out a 10-9, eight-inning win in the two teams’ first meeting last week. Thursday, Travis Garvey doubled home pinch runner Greg Bryan for the eventual winning run in the top of the seventh as the Tide rallied from a 4-3 deficit into a 7-3 lead. Austin Paul doubled home two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the Buffaloes (0-3) before the Floyd County comeback ran out of steam. Garvey also slugged a solo home run for Galax, going 2-for-4 at the plate. Grayson County 14, Ashe County 6: The Blue Devils picked up their first win of the season, riding a pair of big innings to a nondistrict win Wednesday in Independence. The Blue Devils (1-1) took the lead for good in the bottom of the second, breaking a scoreless tie with a five-run outburst fueled by back-to-back two-run singles from Taylor Hiatt and Jared Salts. Each team pushed two runs across in the fourth and the Blue Devils broke the game open by scoring six runs in the fifth. Zack Hill stroked a two-run single, Ethan Hash added an RBI single and three runs scored on bases-loaded walks. Hiatt, Tyler Rutherford and Jake Blizzard were each 2-for-3, with Rutherford and Hiatt driving in three runs apiece.   Ashe County............000  240  0–– 6    6   3 Grayson County......050  261  x––14  10  4
