MARION -- Galax swept the boys’ and the girls’ individual championships at the Walker’s Run cross country meet, a 3-mile race held Saturday at Hungry Mother State Park in Marion.
Five of Galax’s boys posted career best times for a 3.0-mile course, including White division winner Travis Cockerham, who held off Patrick Henry’s Skylar Carbary by four seconds, finishing in 17 minutes and 56 seconds. Also running career best times were Kevin Loftin (16th, 17:56), Trevor Quesenberry (17th, 17:58), Dyllan Taylor (35th, 18:44) and Andres Flores (54th, 19:45). Galax also got a scoring time from Juan Moreno (44th, 19:21).
Marleigh Durham took the girls’ individual title with a time of 21:23 to outdistance runner-up Kaitlin Stowers of John Battle by 37 seconds.
Sydney Barker placed fourth in a career best 22:19 for the Maroon Tide and Grayson County’s Lakyn Parks was sixth in 22:46. Catie Goodson also ran a career best time of 28:25 for Galax.
Ashley Jordan of Galax was the winner of the girls’ middle school race with a 2.0-mile time of 11:35, while Lexie Delp placed fifth in 12:01. Austin Bunn placed sixth for Grayson County in the boys’ JV race and Galax’s Chandler Quesenberry was fourth in the boys’ middle school race.
