Tax increase in Grayson County
Here's the place to vent about Grayson County's 44% increase in the real estate tax levy. What do you think? Was it "unavoidable," as county officials said? What areas of the county budget would you cut to prevent a tax increase?
Well I'm not quite sure a "Tea Party" is going to solve all the ills of Grayson County but one thing that will is voting out ANY AND ALL politicians and council members who vote themselves a pay increases of any sort. We're seeing it locally and in Washington where we have politicians who are continuing business as normal and voting themselves pay raises and budget increases while the erroding tax base continues to vanish. Within our own households we have to maintain a budget and we actually WORK for our money. Why should it be any different for a paid official who continuously votes themselves and unwarranted and unearned pay increase?
Furthermore it should be noted that the amount of illegals in Grayson, Carrol and Wythe counties are increasing tremendously and not paying wage or property taxes. Most are paid under the table with cash and never show up on the record books for taxes. And while they may pay sales tax, thats a mere pittance compared to property owners who are losing their properties values when these illegals get a foothold in any area and make it an undesirable place to live! There is a trade off for cheap labor and in the years to come ALL of the residents will be paying that price!!!

I was at the tax increase meeting at the 1908 court house a while back. There was a paper passed for persons interested in being on a committee to sign up. I sighned up and haven't heard a thing. Did these ladies really want to do this or was it just talk?

I FEEL GRAYSON COUNTY IS TAKING THE ORIGINAL SETTLERS FOR A RIDE. THEY KNOW PEOPLE CAN'T PAY THOSE TAXES AND ARE PLANNING ON MAKING MONEY OFF OF FORECLOSURES AND BUYING LAND FOR BACK TAXES. THEY GIVE THEMSELVES A RAISE, BUT WE ARE IN SUCH A MESS THEY HAVE TO INCREASE TAXES 44%? NO WAY.
EVERYONE IS HAVING TO SACRIFICE AT WORK. AT MY PLACE OF WORK, WE CAN HAVE NO OVERTIME, HELP HAS BEEN CUT BACK, NO RAISES, BUT I DO HAVE A JOB. LUCKIER THAN MOST IN THIS COMMUNITY. WHAT ABOUT THOSE THAT DON'T? YET AGAIN, WHO WILL BENEFIT FROM OTHERS SUFFERING? OUR LOVELY COUNTY ADMINISTRATORS! MAYBE EVEN ANOTHER RAISE. KINDA LIKE THE WHITEHOUSE, LETS HAVE A MILLION DOLLAR PARTY AFTER THE INCREASE.
WELL, I FEEL WE NEED A TEA PARTY HERE TOO. WANT OT GET IT STARTED? I KNOW MANY, OH GOODNESS...VERY MANY, WILLING TO JOIN!
My taxes not long ago 136.00 on my property now over 600.00 not including garbage tax. Mind u no improvements whatsoever have been done to this property. All around we have illegal immigrants working the tax free christmas trees. How they get away with it sub-contract to one legal oh well we voted for em now lets get control. School system needs major overhaul makes me sick new schools wasted money just on construction mishaps alone were unexcuseable not to mention it doesnt even pass state standards by code?????????? but even that gets covered up insulation on inside of ventalation systems no no no lets all breathe a little insulation every day. Prison oh boy 3-4 jobs AN how much mula?????????????very disappointed!!!!!!!!!!

I think it's time for some new members on the School Board Too!
I think we need to clean out the Supervisors and elect some that have lots of common sense and some compassion with it..Evidently the ones in there have no clue that the economy is bad or either they don't care and I would suggest that it is both. Heard from one likely candidate that will be running and he said that if he got elected that he would get in touch with his constituents and get their view on the matter to be voted on..These bow wows that have a supervisor's position have to go along with the Administrator which is appointed by the supervisors.......Tea Party? Why not! Go for it.

well does grayson county tax payers know that the school system allows OUT OF STATE children to attend there schools? thats free bus rides, free breakfast and lunches, free field trips, free school sports ect. all at there expence? as a tax payer i don't like it. and nothing is being done about it. thats part of the 44 %
