Area fire and police personnel teamed up on Oct. 16 at the Fries ballpark in a Tankers vs. Tazers benefit softball game in an effort to raise money for the Fries P.T.O.
In the first of what organizers hope to be an annual event, members of each team were handcuffed together at the four infield positions, and batters went to the plate wearing fire helmets (shields down) for an inning.
Once serious play began, the Tazers pounded out 10 runs in the second inning, survived a five-run rally by the Tankers in the fifth and held on for a 16-5 win.
More than $1,800 was raised for the students of Fries, including a donation of $15 per player.
