Muscle cars, space ships, army tanks, aircraft and more — all in miniature, but none shy of detail — that’s what you’ll see at D&J Hobby Center’s annual Hobby Show this Saturday in Galax.
This celebration of miniatures will be held at the Galax Public Library from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The library is at 610 West Stuart Drive.
The public is welcome to come by and look and admission is free.
“I’m always fascinated every year at what shows up,” said Darrell Burris, owner of D&J Hobby Center and organizer of the show. “It amazes me the skill it takes to build these miniatures.”
The show features giveaways, raffles and kits for sale. It is co-sponsored by the Tamiya model company.
People come from Tennessee, Maryland, nearby metro areas and from all over the Twin Counties to display their works, he said.
Kids and adults are invited to enter their models. Cost is $5 for the first entry and $1 for each additional entry.
Entrants each receive a certificate, Burris explained. That makes the focus of this show a bit different.
“What we want to do is make the show more focused on the model rather than the trophy,” he said. It places the emphasis on miniatures as a relaxing hobby.
Model kits, collectibles, games, comic books and more are available at D&J Hobby Center. The store has been open for 13 years and is located at 106 Nuckolls Curve Road in Galax.
