HILLSVILLE — A 36-year-old Hillsville man faces charges after barricading himself in the Hillcrest Apartments on Nov. 27, according to a press release from the Hillsville Police Department.

Police officers received a report at approximately 11:30 p.m. after the man had reportedly fired a weapon inside his apartment and barricaded the door with furniture to prevent anyone else from getting in.

When officers arrived, they found the man's girlfriend and juvenile daughter had already fled the apartment.

Officer Robbie Martin first cleared the nearby apartments of residents and then started talking to the suspect over the telephone.

Members of the Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police provided assistance, and Hillsville Police Chief Steve Williams began negotiating with the suspect, who called himself Adam Easter.

The officers convinced the man to surrender without further incident.

Police say that they entered the apartment at about 12:30 a.m. and identified the subject as Adam Daniel Bushlow, 36, according to the press release. They found three firearms and a large amount of ammunition inside.

Bushlow had fired a shotgun inside the apartment and shot holes through the bathroom wall, the police report said.

Police charged Bushlow with reckless handling of a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
