HILLSVILLE — Authorities believe they have found the armed subject that jumped the pharmacy counter and demanded drugs from the CVS Pharmacy in Hillsville in January.
After months of investigation, the Hillsville Police Department announced Monday that there is a suspect in the Jan. 2 armed robbery of an undisclosed amount of prescription drugs.
Because the authorities intend to charge the person by direct indictment during the December grand jury session in Carroll County Circuit Court, they have declined to release the suspect's identity.
Police said in a news release that James Alderman, the town's investigator, conducted interviews in an undisclosed jurisdiction.
"As the result of the interviews conducted by Sgt. Alderman, we are confident that we have identified the person responsible for the CVS robbery," Hillsville Chief Steve Williams said in a news release. "The suspect is currently incarcerated in another jurisdiction, and with the assistance of our commonwealth's attorney, we will seek direct indictments."
Police indicated that an armed subject dressed all in black stormed the pharmacy counter.
"The suspect jumped the counter and demanded drugs from the pharmacy safe," according to a news release. "The cashier was forced to the floor as the pharmacist opened the safe."
A witness described the suspect as standing between 5 feet, 2 inches to 5 feet 7 inches with a very slight build. His clothes included gloves and a face mask.
Police believed the suspect had no interest in taking cash, only drugs. No one was reported injured as a result of the robbery.
